We just found Tino passed away in his cage tonight. Am a bit choked up. His food hadn't gone from the night before, he wasn't in his house - I found him somewhere else in the cage. Just trying to process it before making arrangements.

As many of you know he was a beautiful big boy and a softie. He was almost 2.5 years old and had been on metacam for some time. He seemed to have energy. He had been active every night. It must have been his time.

Oh Maz I am very sorry to hear this sad news 🥲
He was so active and enjoying his playtime. It must have come very sudden. I wish you strength and send comfort processing the loss of dear little Tino.
Tino run free 🌈 over the sweet scented fields of flowers 🙏🌺❤️

Oh maz I'm so sorry to hear about Tino, 😔 he had a wonderful mummy who dedicated her days to give him love and security. Sending you and your family my condolences and of cause hammy hugs 🤗🥰 rest in peace dear Tino 💞💕 Ness

He has gone to the pet crematorium inside his small upside down Omlet house so it’s like a box that way up - with his nest bedding and a sprinkle of rose petals. The small Omlet house fits perfectly inside the medium Ferplast aladino pet carrier and a small blanket on top inside. So he’s had a caring send off.

He will then be returned tomorrow in a scatter box and we’ll do a little burial in a few days and plant a shrub.

I’ve sent for a small potentilla “bellissima” (ie beautiful) shrub to plant over him - they are the only ones the rabbits don’t try and eat - we have two already.

Oh Maz I feel your pain. That is a wonderful and loving farewell to adorable little Tino 🥲❤️🌈
No words can ease the heartbreak, I am sending you a virtual hug 🫶

This is sad news Maz. Tino was a very special boy indeed and his photos remind us of how lovely he was.
Although it must have come as a shock to you, your special boy is now at peace. He had a wonderful life with you because you loved and cared for him in every way.
Your plans for him on his return home sound good and Charlie in particular will take care of him for you.
Big hug for you

So sorry to hear this. Tino was a gorgeous hammy, with such a personality. Play free over the bridge beautiful Tino

Thank you. It's hitting me again today. It's never easy but it wasn't nice finding him like that. I keep telling myself it was a blessing and quick for him - but it was just the experience of finding him.

I'm not sure exactly what happened but he seemed to be stuck between two cage items and that was bothering me that maybe I hadn't worked out the access properly in that corner. There was another exit but it's like he tried to squeeze through between two cage items. I'm not sure if it was trying to squeeze through that maybe made him have a heart attack or if he got stuck. It is bothering me now. He was active but maybe got weaker that night.

I don't think I will ever use that small Omlet hide again without adding an extra door at the back - so it has more than one access door - but there were other exits in that area - his cork log had an entrance hole at the side as well as the front and back.

I am so sorry

On the other hand I had been thinking he had been preparing to die before he had the cage move two weeks ago, as he had already left his house in his old cage and was sleeping under a shelf. And maybe the cage move gave him a burst of energy and activity at first, and it was a bit easier for him with the lower ramp. He just managed to get somewhere I hadn't expected him to go - there was an exit but he went a different way.

I don't know exactly what happened. He was being a hamster and I wasn't there at the time to help.
