Bin cages

The one with the glasses! Brilliant. I knew immediately which one that was.

You are clever! Great idea.

I can see bin cages popularity coming back given the price of everything now. Yours are very well done.

The 2 thing I really worry about with bin cages is in some cases is ventilation and size. With what in about to say there's obviously the exception of carriers or hospital cages. I often see many people using a bin that tapers in a lot, which isn't ideal, like 60x40 for a syrian. I do like how the very useful boxes don't taper in that much if not at all, it's just a shame I don't see many people use them.

I've also seen bin cages with just holes drilled into the lid or only a small portion of the lid meshed. Which to me isn't very good, so I like how you've cut out the majority of the lid and sections out of the walls allowing for plenty of ventilation.

On another note, I can see Clive wearing glasses.😅

Beryl has some great examples of bin cages. Yes maybe an article is needed on how to build a bin cage with enough ventilation and good examples of sizes. I usually just quote that 145 litre rub bin.

Agree, they are probably the cheapest option now.

I used to use bin cages but didn't like the look of them so changed to barred cages with big front doors.

They are very practical for rescues because they are easy to move, clean and they keep the substrate in.

I just like making them and use a couple for storing hamster stuff in so have them available if i ever need one for a rescue hamster or hospital cage.

A second hand cage is a cheaper option than a bin cage because a big bin like the 145l rub doesn't come cheap.

Next time i make one i'll take photos for a tutorial but no one needs one at the moment because rehoming is quite slow.

That is a very good point. A second hand hamster heaven or Alaska is a better buy or cheaper. I just hope Alaska's don't become so collectible they become valuable!

Doubt it. Alaskas aren't that well built and doors usually wear out.
The Hamster Heaven is stronger and the door is a better, more secure design.

I think a bin cage works out more expensive if a person does not have a drill. I looked into making one for a hospital tank but without a drill it is very tricky.

She is isn’t she! Very clever. It’s a great way to attach a wheel to a bin cage, which can be hard to do.
