Hello
This is mine and my sons first hamster called Bruce the Second (Bruce the first was a hamster my husband owned as a child)
We made the common mistake of buying a pets at home cage for Bruce so are awaiting delivery of a Bucastate 2 that due to arrive tomorrow.
We have tried to make his cage as hamster friendly as we can for now.
We have a sand bath on order too and some sprays have just been delivered today.
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Bruce seems happy to be held currently and even enjoys a run around in a play pen with my son sat with him. He is happy to sit on our hands too.

Hello. Bruce the second is gorgeous :-) It's also lovely he is friendly and happy to be handled. He'll be fine where he is until you get the new one all set up, he'll still be a baby I would think. In fact it would be better to leave him in the current place for at least 3 weeks before a cage move :-) So no rush for that, and it can take time to get a Bucatstate fully set up! It doesn't have to be too expensive for contents though - you can make quite a few things from cardboard to save buying too many expensive items - houses, tunnels, hides etc.

Maybe keep us posted how the Bucatstate set up is going and then before moving him, post on here for moving tips :-) A cage move can be a very stressful experience for them if just done cold turkey, but there are ways of making it not stressful and them settling much quicker (related to scent and layout) :-). In fact you could probably even put his current cage with the top removed, inside the Bucatstate initially and let him gradually explore out from there so he has familiarity. That is one option but it prevents completing the new set up so there are other ways without doing that :-)

Hello 🙋‍♂️ Bruce is beautiful 😍 and I think you have definitely made the best out of the cage. It looks very nice. I am looking forward to hear more Bruce news ☺️ he is really sweet

The only thing I would recommend is a bigger wheel, it’s hard to tell from fotos, but the wheel looks rather small. Depending on Bruce’s size, a small wheel can lead to health issues due to the back being over bent. This is what I was told from my vet. I am sure it’s mentioned here in a post too. I think a good wheel is the only item which it’s worth spending a little bit more on. It’s doesn’t have to be the most expensive but there are so many good options to buy 🌺

Well hello Bruce the second it's lovely to meet you, he's very sweet. I must agree with Amy on the wheel I've got a nightangel 12 inch and I'm so glad I did as my Teddy has grown so much in a month. Looking forward to seeing more of Bruce 🐹😊Ness
