I tried offering him a treat in my hand yesterday.
He came right up, sniffed my fingers, then walked over my hand, picked up his treat, went to his favourite spot (on top of his bedroom, where he likes to sit and groom himself) and ate it.
Good progress I think.

It sounds very nice 
. They can soon be trained into a habit as well. One of mine loves taking treats from me in the cage. The other one won’t take it from me and ignores it unless I put it down - then he’ll take it 
. Yet he’s quite tame and easy to handle. Just different personalities.

We went out in our playpen for the first time today.
We had a wheel, a foraging mat, cardboard tubes, his sand bath, and a few hides.
Seemed to enjoy it, he foraged in his foraging mat, ran about, played in his wheel, then sat and ate food out of his pouch.
He investigated the hides, but preferred to explore and play.
Then he went back into his habitat.
He seemed to have fun

This all sounds really positive. Your patience has paid off and he seems happy and secure I think you're going to have a lot of fun. Once he gets used to being in the playpen, he may start showing he wants to come out at various times. Initially it's probably best to keep it to once or twice a week (unless he shows he wants out), and then increase it - sometimes they end up wanting out daily, in a routine.

Aw, he is so lovely and has a wonderfully expressive face. It is quite an honour if they unpouch some food and eat it in front of you. It means he is happy and relaxed. Well done ❤
