Cold weather tonight

So how do you do it? Are there instructions? I can't imagine rice cooking in less than 20 minutes ha ha. Is yours plastic or ceramic?
Mine is plastic. I cook brown rice which takes a bit longer. But you never end up with mushy, soggy rice 👍

So how do you do it - just put rice and water in it? How long does it take? I should try it. I just tend to think it's another gadget to find cupboard space for!

It has 2 bowls. The bowl with the rice sits in a bowl of water. After cooking you lift the rice bowl out of the water, the water drains off and it's perfectly cooked 👌 Probably about 20 minutes for white rice...can't remember exactly.

Yes, a quality check now and then is definitely a good idea 😉

My dream rice cooker, I will look for one of those, I need it! 🍚

I think that might be why I didn't try it 🤣 If it takes 20 minutes. As it takes the same time in a pan. I can see it's more convenient though. I do know the electric rice cookers are very good though. I knew someone that had one. It looks like a very small slow cooker. I just don't have the cupboard space for gadgets unfortunately.

I had a stand alone steam cooker with three tiers that did a great job of veggies and could do small amounts of rice really well effortlessly. It could switch itself off if the water got low and was the only way I have ever been able to cook lentils without ending up with a gravel like substance. It created great clouds of steam. However space is at a premium so I got rid of it, but I am pleased with the microwave and it fits in nicely.

Going back to the cold weather - it has been SO cold here the last few nights! And I realised I still had the summer duvet on so switched to the winter duvet last night :-) Warm and toasty. Our lounge is drafty and it's been very windy as well so had the oil filled radiator come on for an hour in the middle of the night. The room is warm by bedtime but goes cold again quickly.

I now only use the microwave and air fryer my traditional cooker is redundant except on Christmas day but I still can't boil pasta without a mess from it boiling over😏

I have my mini tabletop oven which gets used mostly but I can't get on with microwaving generally - apart from odd things or heating up. I've never had an air fryer - are they easy to use? Not sure where I'd put it. Does it have loads of bits to wash up afterwards?

Sorry late reply my air fryer sits on top of the ceramic hob and gets moved over when hob is needed it is so easy to clean just soak the drawers in hot water while eating dinner and use a sponge scrub to finish cleaning

I'm really interested to know about your air fryer! OH keeps saying he wants one and I'm dubious as they don't seem that big - what can you actually cook in it apart from chips? (I have no idea!)

I have the Ninja with 2 drawers but lots other makes have 3 drawers but don't go up to 240 degrees. I can cook a whole small to medium chicken in about 50 minutes on 180 it does lovely sausages, beefburgers, gammon my friends cooks steak, pork chops and beef joints but I still use a slow cooker for those as I can turn meat into boot leather even after 53 years of practice chicken of any kind is fool proof 😃it's great for roasted veg.

Oh thank you. Can you cook the veg at the same time as the chicken? Also how does a chicken fit in the drawers?! Or maybe I'm looking at the wrong one - which one do you have?

I have the original 2 drawer Ninja so can cook different things I the drawers and use the sync setting so they finish at the same time. I. Just watching a program on catch up My5 called The air fryer diet, I'm not dieting but it's good to see the variety of things you can cook it was on Wed 8p.m I may get more adventurous after this 😀
