I really don’t think there is anything you can do to negate the presence of the cat I’m afraid Robbie & putting Cookie in the garage really doesn’t sound like a good option, Cookie seems to be doing ok really so don’t worry too much.
Putting a towel over the cage is fine if he’s still got good airflow, just make sure he isn’t chewing anywhere.

Yeah i agree don't worry he will not be going in the garage and okay thank you that's good to hear!

Hey guys! Hope your all doing well I just had a quick question would this Treat basket be okay for Cookie?

Thanks
Best wishes

Looks fine to me too - I had trouble reading the ingredients and thought it said Pepperoni at first and thought hmm maybe not. Then realised it was peppermint :ROFLMAO: . He should enjoy that. Although Syrians can be funny and just ignore things or walk in them rather than eat them - if they're not interested in the herbs. He should enjoy rummaging around in the basket though and hopefully there's something in there he'll want to eat!

Hahaha 🤣 what's wrong with pepperoni I am sure he would love a good slice of pizza 🤣 thanks guys and he loves it so much he could not resist coming out to investigate what it was and he seems to really like it he is nibbling away at it already lol

Thanks Robbie and cookie 🍪

Oh that's great he's enjoying it :) . I am sure he would eat pepperoni too but it wouldn't be good for him! Too spicy.

Yeah I will keep the human food for me and the hamster food for him lol 😂

Thanks guys Robbie and Cookie 🍪

Lovely to see him enjoying his treat.

Cookie being the fussy little guy that he is got bored of his treat that I got for him do you guys have any recommendations that an older little guy like cookie might enjoy? It could be treats toys or anything really! I was thinking about getting him a sand bath again!

Thanks guys

I would definitely give him a sand bath if he doesn’t have one.
Not sure what treats are best for an older Syrian someone else will probably have some ideaas.

Sandbaths are best left in the cage at all times so it would be a great idea to get one for Cookie. You could use a container as a sandbath. Has Cookie ever tried whimzees? I cannot remember. They are very popular with hamsters. He may like walnut, peanut in the shell (you could crack it first to make it easier for him to get out).

He may also enjoy sprays. Things like flax seed sprays are popular with Syrians. :)

It sounds like Cookie would enjoy a new treat :) Don't know how interested you are in making things but Rainbow and Beryl made some lovely diy treats from cardboard with seeds and bits of food stuck to them. I've tried it too and it works really well. You just make a thin paste out of plain flour and water and paint it on, say, a cardboard tube (a toilet roll inner tube would do, but cut it down the side first so it expands as they can be a bit small for a Syrian). Then you roll the tube in a dish of seeds - maybe pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds - they're easy to get. Then leave it to dry. The hamsters seem to enjoy picking the seeds off the side :) . So the only real cost is some pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds - supermarkets sell them.

If you're putting a sand bath in, it needs to be safe sand. I've tended to find with Syrians, that not all of them are interested in a sand bath and they're more likely to use it as a toilet - but see if he enjoys it :). He's quite an elderly boy now isn't he? So he may be less interested in a sand bath but you could try adding one to the corner of his cage. I think he will definitely enjoy a new edible treat though!

Thank you guys I will look It all the recommendations and yeah when he was younger he did not seem very bothered with the sand bath and just used it as a toilet most of the time

I will definitely look into some new treats for him!
I will let you guys know and I will probably ask some more questions later today!

Thanks Robbie and Cookie 🍪

Ditto to this. Cinnamon has enjoyed a peanut in its shell (I crack it slightly to start it for him) and also an XS whimzee. He took it into his hoard and it remains there, but I know he still chews it periodically because I can hear it banging around while he's chewing it in his chamber. Maybe a coconut fiber dig box as a fun addition to a sandbath? I haven't tired coconut fiber for my current hamster, but I'm also thinking of adding it as another boredom breaker. We have a sandbath full time (thankfully, unlike my previous hamster he actually uses it as his wee corner, which helps with cleaning!).

Just wanted to let you guys know cookie is still doing well obviously he has definitely started to enjoy his sleep even more as he is a little old man but when I get him out his cage he still loves to run around and also he now has a the sand bath he has not used it much but at least he has it in case he ever does want to use it now

Thanks Robbie and cookie 🍪
