That’s exactly what I experienced. Then I decided to spot clean his nest and I can assure you it was well needed. It stank so terrible I had to wash my hands multiple times to get rid of the smell. I think it is very unhealthy for any animal to sleep in a stinky environment and a few minutes stress (worst case) is less dangerous for a hamster than sleeping all day in a nest full of ammonia. but everyone has a different opinion on this ma

Yes, it's best to have an ammonia free nest so it might be better to clean out the soiled bedding

I did a spotclean today, couldn't find a wet spot in het nest or anywhere else in the bedding, but the wooden platforms where smelly, so i had to take them out en clean them. I also had to change the layout a bit. She didn't seem to mind, i left her bedding in and used the same houses.

Today i had her out of the cage for the first time, i let her walk in my hands above the dining table, and she let me pet her. She was very relaxed.

Her weight is now 38grams.

I ordered the niteangel freeze dried tofu for her, to add more protein to her diet, and she loves it.
I also made her some sprouted mung beans, she loves them too.

She has her normal food (mixerama, it has around 14% protein) and some sprays.
To that i add a protein snack every day: a mealworm, gammarus, some eggfood (sold for birds) or a piece of niteangel tofu.

She also gets a tiny fresh snack every day. Until now she loves broccoli, cucumber, sprouted mung beans, chicory and arugula.

I offer her toilet paper for nesting material, but she doesn't use it.
I have used kapot with my previous hamsters and they loved it, but i am not sure if it is safe so i don't use it anymore. Is there any other nesting material you can recommend?

She's gorgeous Lovely photos and it must be lovely to finally interact with her and great she let you pet her. Torn up strips of toilet paper is about the only safe nesting material really. She may be taking some of it. If she's ignoring it then it sounds like she is happy just creating a burrow in the bedding. I wouldn't worry.

She is so very relaxed, i am in love with her already!
Only thing i need to be carefull about is the hand feeding.
I have fed her some veggies or protein right from my hand (hold it between my fingers) to let her get used to me, and now, whenever i open her tank and put my hand in, she thinks it is food.
My mistake! she doesn't bite but she just graps my finger with her paws and nibbles, to find out it isn't tasteful

I think from now on, i just use let her sniff my hands, or let her walk in her taxi, and put the treats in a bowl or in front of her on the bedding.

I always tap a 3 times before I give a treat from my hand, and until they learn what that means, give them the back of my fist to sniff if there is no food involved. That way they don't associate food with fingers, but with tapping

I think it was meant to be.

I used to visit her at night, and now she comes to see me during the day.

When she hears me, she often comes over to check on me, looking for a treat or some attention.

I think we’re a little in love with each other; we’ve built a bond.

Since a couple days Droppie is sleeping in the water bottle holder.
Don't know why, but she seems happy with it and has enough other houses where she can sleep.
I think she might be a super tiny dog instead of a hamster, she is so curious and it seems like she just want to be around to know what is going on.
Why bother with digging, tunneling and nestmaking when you have a super tiny kind of doghouse with toiletpapier to sleep in?

I do think Hamsters are like little dogs sometimes I wonder if she is finding it a cool place to sleep or she just likes that hide!
