It’s been three weeks since Fuzzy came home with us.
So far he seems to be settling in nicely.
He’s got quite a bit of personality, and seems to be relaxed now.
I had him sitting in my hand last night, eating some food, which is the first time he’s fully climbed into my hand.
He loves to forage, likes to bury his food bowl, and really loves his sand bath.

Ooh he's lovely :-) He looks very healthy and curious. Great he's enjoying himself and more relaxed and it looks like he's been out in the playpen from that last photo. How did he find that experience? Did anyone sit in with him? Some people do that although it's best the person gets in and sits before the hamster goes in so no risk of squashing the hamster.

My daughter (Whose hamster it technically is) sat in with him, and was sat in the play pen before Fuzzy was transferred.
He seemed to enjoy the playpen, we have a freestanding wheel for it, a foraging mat, and we added a few cardboard tubes and a few places to hide. We also put his sand bath in for him, plus there was water and food.
He didn't seem stressed, and was quite happy to sit and groom in the playpen.

That sounds great. He will enjoy out of cage time more and more I'm sure :-) And will be getting used to your daughter.

Those Omlet play pens are really nice. He's a lucky little hamster ❤

We were very active yesterday evening.
It’s the most we’ve seen him so far.
He was out and about in his habitat from about six until nearly ten.
He’s been home for just over four weeks now.
I know he’s constructed tunnels in his habitat, because he seems to have connected up a couple of the buried hides.
He’s got a multi chamber bedroom hide, and a couple of single chamber hides in different parts of the habitat.
He went into one, and popped out of the other.
Also, for the first time, He took food from my daughters hand last night, but mainly spent most of the time either in his wheel, or in his sand bath.

Aw, he's a lovely hamster ❤ It is quite fascinating to see how they engineer routes understand and organise their home. Its great he's enjoying his sand bath, it's fun watching them kicking the sand around and cleaning their coat ❤

That is great progress :-) It's nice he's awake from 6pm and sounds like a nice little personality :-)

Aww Fuzzy seems very much like my little Gizmo (RIP 🌈). He was full of adventures and up at all hours of the day and night (especially when there was food around).
It's lovely to see Fuzzy's bonding well with your daughter as well. Also nice to see that he took food from your daughter's hand as well - that's especially trusting when they do that xx

Fuzzy’s favourite food appears to be cashew nut.
He gets a small piece once a day (about 1/8th of a cashew).
He takes it from my hand then sits in the middle of his sand bath to eat it.
Whenever he hears me coming, when he’s up, he comes to the gate in his enclosure and stands up. He’s waiting for me to hand feed him.
He seems to like sitting in my hand to get food.
There are three hidden tunnel entrances in his enclosure now.
I caught him coming out of one next to his sand bath, and he buried the tunnel entrances once he came out.

Fuzzy is a smart little fellow ❤️ He is training you well 🥰

So Fuzzy is currently sulking….
He had his first major enclosure clean out this weekend.
Previously it’s just been spot cleaning.
He had a runaround in his playpen while it happened, but he’s not happy now.
I gave him a post clean treat, and he turned his back to me while he ate it….
Then he disappeared into a tunnel, and hasn’t come out since…

Aw. We usually recommend doing one third of the cage each time rather than all of it so it doesn’t affect them too much 😊 And not cleaning everything at the same time so something always smells familiar. Eg wheel on a different week.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing a post nest jumbling sulk 🙁 Once he has made it a bit smelly again he should be OK. Doing a bit at a time helps to keep it smelling like home 🏡 ❤️

I left most of his nest bedding, and both his food stashes (one at each end of the enclosure)
It needed doing though.
He’ll get over it, I’m sure.
