Hamster mixes 2026

Also @Mr. Haste you can order the gourmet mix directly from Mixerama - they ship reasonably quickly - the downside is the very high shipping cost.

Edit - the Fairytale mix contains peanuts - if your wife is allergic to those as well possibly? @Mr. Haste

I just bought two bags of the Mixerama from Hope's Healthy treats, just over a week ago, so it might be my fault it's out of stock!

Thanks for the helpful reply @Maz .
I was just on the school run and popped in to Pets At Home on the way, where I picked up some freeze dried prawns, as well as some Science Selective complete food. I assume the prawns are cooked because they're pink (?). I got the Science Selective because I've seen you recommend adding a few bits in where feed isn't enriched and where they may be selective eating.

My wife is uneasy around most nuts, but I will try some egg. I still don't trust him not to pouch it like he has done with fresh cucumber, but we'll see!
Edit: I think it's because he was hand fed the cucumber - I will start placing fresh food for him instead.

I don't know what he eats because we've yet to disturb the multi-room chamber which I think is where he's hoarding and sleeping, right at the bottom of his enclosure. I'll be checking it out this weekend to do a bit of a spot clean and to work out what he's up to.

Peanuts she's had exposure to without problems, so they're just about deemed acceptable. It's only walnuts where there's a known allegy, but others make her nervous...

Thanks for looking out for us.

You could just stick to eggs (potentially) and/or 3 or 4 science selective pellets daily in addition to the muesli mix. Even if he pouched his cucumber he probably still ate it straight away in private. If he's a bit skitty at the moment if new he may grab things and hide away. They usually eat fresh food straight away.

How long have you had him?

Aaah, I just edited my message before I saw your reply. I added that it occurred to me that he may be pouching the cucumber because we hand fed it. I've had him for a week come tomorrow, and he was two months old yesterday. He's used to being handled, but is not tame, if that makes sense. This explains why he's not comfortable sitting and eating.

A week is still very early days - they can be quite skitty for 10 days to 2 weeks and then they seem to be more confident about being out in the open or eating out in the open in the enclosure.

I notice the Mixerama price is up to £9.99 on a single purchase at Hope's Healthy Treats, and it's currently out of stock. I thought I'd found another UK supplier here, at Puff and Whisker, but it turns out not to be the same mix even though it's described as 'gourmet mix'. It is actually this Fairytale mix by Mixerama.

I brought a new 8 week old hamster home a week ago and he has been eating the Mixerama Fairytale mix. Can anyone advise whether or not this is good enough? I'd like to buy the gourmet mix from HHT but since it's out of stock I'm thinking of going for the Hamster Helper mix instead.

In terms of protein, I'm thinking of getting some of this freeze dried chicken from Pets AT Home (unless there's a better place to buy it to avoid giving money to the rodent mill company?). Applaws freeze dried chicken (edited when I found this thread about safe freeze dried chicken options). I can't do walnut because my wife's allergic to it. I could do egg, but would it spoil too quickly if he hoards it? At the moment he tends to pouch everything and store it away. Does anyone have a better idea than the freeze dried chicken?

Sorry about all the questions - I'm new!
HHT do restock quite quickly ,and if you subscribe to deliveries for it,they make sure you get your supply. Personally,I also love Hammykins,my Syrian enjoys a little bit of each

I have just started a bag of Hammykins while i wait for Mixerama to be back in stock. Mr Maggie seems to like both so I will probably rotate between the 2 depending on availability.
