Hamster parachute …….

Ok so, I was thinking about my current issue, of small critters flying out of wheels, and I had one of those crazy thoughts. Then I read listed I’d spotted a gap in the market!

Hamster parachutes!!!

Not only could they be useful for flying out the wheel issues, it solves the falling off high ledge issues too! What a brain wave! Anyone want to join me in creating and marketing this essential bit of equipment?

First off, we need a design. A few important points
1) it has to be small enough not to impede hammy going about his daily business
2) it has to be robust enough to withstand the rigours of daily hamster life, whilst being comfortable and not rubbing. I suspect it needs to be adjustable, so v small buckles etc
3) we probably need at least 2, probably 3 - 4 different sizes to cover Dwarf to Syrian with Chinese and Robo too (plus other small critters that fall off things)
4) we are going to need to develop microscopic sensors so the parachute opens only when the hamster falls
5) it’s going to need to release after it’s opened, so hammy doesn’t get tangled

Ok, who’s in?

That was my thought!

For those concerned about the ethics of testing, we will need people to make up hamster sized stuffed toys, with weights in them to mimic actual hamster weight……….

Anyone else worry about the way their brain works? Mine is putting a lot of thought into this idea!

It is exactly what hamsters need you're right - so they can do their daredevil stunts safely, jump safely from tall buildings cupboards (I'm keeping it in the same joking vein as your suggestion btw in case anyone reads so they don't think it's serious!).

The only real issue I can see 😜 (there isn't an emoji for tongue in cheek - that's the nearest I could get!) is that hamsters are like teenagers - they would refuse to wear anything that's good for them :ROFLMAO: They would recycle the parachute and turn it into nesting material probably, or they would sell it on ebay.

It sounds like a very humorous creative brain! I once had a crazy idea that a small mobile phone could also be a camera. I even considered asking a couple of student friends to draw up some plans so I could patent the idea. I didn't bother - and about 3 years later ................camera phones came along!

Would you mind if I rename this thread "Hamster Parachutes" because we like fun threads like this :-) It kind of covers the topic!

Seriously though - they do indeed need parachutes! It would be difficult to achieve though.

I would be sooooooo gutted! 😱😢. All my ‘inventions’ are nonsense like this one! I’d love to be able to invent something remarkable, but being able to make people smile is a gift, especially in my line of work (A&E) so I’m grateful for it

Please rename away. My initial title was ‘lucrative business idea’, but I thought that gave the wrong impression……. I just wanted to give people a smile. You never know when a smile will make that vital difference to someone!

Now you’ve got me imagining hamsters on keyboards, selling their parachutes on eBay……

Hmmmmmmm hamster keyboard………… main issue here is going to be scale, and lack of ‘thumb dexterity’ ……….. 😂😂

I think some of us do have photos of hamsters on keyboards :ROFLMAO: For some reason hamsters seem attracted to keyboards and walk all over them. I've had the odd nerve-wracking moment hoping the hamster didn't suddenly decide to pee on the keyboard (computers and liquid lead to dead laptop!)
Ooh I miss that old laptop!

This hamster (Charlie) definitely needed a parachute! Entirely my fault as he couldn't find a way down, so jumped (as they do!).
