I’ve had my syrian hamster for about 3 months now, and she’s still REALLY easily scared of me and pretty much everything I do. I’m starting to get worried that I’m doing something wrong or that she’s just never going to fully trust me. She gets startled by the smallest things and will literally jump when something scares her. I have to move my hands extremely slowly around her because if I make a slightly sudden movement, she jumps. Sometimes she’ll even be sitting/climbing on my hand and suddenly jump because she can feel me taking a deep breath 😭 When i got her she was so nervous being on my hand that i could feel her vibrating🙁 The confusing part is that she does willingly climb onto my hand, but I don’t really think it’s because she trusts me, but because wants to get out of her cage, so when she sees my hand she’ll sometimes climb onto it because she knows it can get her out. Once she’s out, she mostly just seems focused on escaping rather than interacting with me. I don’t think the cage she is in is too small, because she doesn’t even take advantage of the space she has and rarely explores that much and rather stays in her wheel corner. She is in a 100 x 50 cm. I’ve been trying to tame her properly this whole time. I offer her treats from my hand, let her approach me instead of grabbing her, try to get her used to my scent and presence, move slowly around her, etc. She’ll take treats from me and climb onto me, but she still seems just as skittish as she was before. I don’t feel like we’ve made much progress at all. Has anyone else had a hamster like this? Is it possible that this is just her personality and she’ll always be extremely jumpy, or could it take longer than 3 months for some hamsters to actually become comfortable with their owner? I have never had a hamster this skittish and I mainly want to make sure I’m not accidentally stressing her out or doing something wrong. 😭 Also I’m including a photo of her because she is really cute

Hi, it's so hard isn't it? :-) Three months is still very young, but I would suggest doing bathtub taming maybe 2 or 3 times a week, and start using a "taxi" for her to walk into coming out of the cage. Details in the article below :-) There's also a video linked in the comments section of the article to show how to do it :-)
