Hello and welcome. Are you asking for advice on the babies? This thread will help you.

Wait, are you saying a Syrian and a dwarf had babies? That is not possible.

Bandit is adorable. So you keep Chinese hamsters as well?

I think birdgeek is saying the two chinese had babies :) . Assume all is going well with the babies?

Sorry I meant to add Chip is adorable too! I just saw Bandit's photo first! How old are the babies now? If you need any tips on managing the babies, just shout.

I have bred hamsters before the babies were born on 16th 3 girls 4 boys and mostly dominant spotted

So they're a week old :) Is dominant spot the more dominant gene then? I find the genetics of litters fascinating. I know a Cinammon Syrian bred with another Cinammon Syrian can have some cream and some Cinnamon babies if there is cream in the genetic history of one of the Cinammons. Dominant Spot is a lovely colouring.

That sounded like a foreign language to me! Lol.

Sorry! If you think that sounds like a foreign language, you should see how breeders discuss it - they have abbreviations for all the different types. aaee genotype will always be cream apparently. Black plus rust is aabb and produces chocolate coloured Syrians. It would be interesting to have an article on the genotypes. I only have the basic links to colourings on the home page.

Do you have homes for them already or are you waiting till they're a bit older to start looking for homes?

Yes the normal colour is a recessive gene (presumably why there are more dominant spots)

Generally we don't encourage people to breed their own hamsters on here - unless they are affiliated to an official breeding association. But you said you are an experienced breeder so am assuming you are involved in a breeding association? Or had guidance from other breeders perhaps. Apologies for asking so many questions! It would be interesting to hear of your breeding experiences and previous litters.

I have bred hamsters and fancy mice for years I had a mousery called Golden Girls Fancy mousery but all my breeder mice are retired or has passed now. So yes I have lots of experience and I bred a normal to dominant spotted which usally creates 50/50 chance of dominant spotted but I think she must have dominant spotted in her blood to produce 75% dominant spotted 😉 and I plan to hold back a dominant spotted female to breed back to dominant spotted to create black eyed whites hopefully.

Thank you for letting us know :) . So you will have lots of baby hamsters this Christmas! Hope they are all doing fine.

Hello & welcome to the forum.
Lovely to see your hams & to see another Chinesey on here, look forward to hearing more about them.

I particularly love long haired syrians and yours does look very sweet.

Hope all the babies are thriving. Would love to see pics once they are old enough.
