Hello!

I don't know much about malt paste. If it's something that tastes nice she might like it. I know some people would say you shouldn't give dog food as it's not formulated for hamsters, or it might be too much protein, but this one is very basic and more natural than some and to be honest - when they are very old or unwell I think there has to be a balance - if it's something they enjoy it's good for them and helps the medicine go down! Obviously not anything that could poison them though!

For some reason she's decided she likes the baytril after all 😱 she grabs the syringe and licks it, won't let me take it away. She's a strange little thing 😅 the dog food arrives tomorrow so she won't have to worry about being picked up so much at least. And luckily this morning all the crackly breathing was gone, I've seen her drinking and eating again so fingers crossed once the course is finished, she has plenty of time left with us after all. I do need to try to trim her nails as well, last year they went to the vet to have it done after a whiff of gas but at their age I'd rather not take the risk.

Aw. Good she's taking it well. Clever girl. I also totally get that - it's important they get the full dose. And you know what you're doing and have handling experience. For some inexperienced owners, it's better with food as if the hamster struggles with the syringe they can end up inhaling the meds or just spits it out again! Robos are so much tinier so I couldn't have managed it any other way!

I forgot to mention - another way some people use is to draw up a tiny bit of runny honey in the syringe with the baytril - they often take it no problem that way and even enjoy it. That didn't work for me as my robo just attacked the syringe every time and batted it away!

Wow, I am amazed she actually likes the bayril! It was so hated by my guinea pigs. How wonderful to hear her crackly breathing has gone and she is doing better. You have done such a wonderful job of caring for her and getting her well again.

I just showed my partner the adorable picture of her taking the bayrtil and he said she looks like she is playing the flute. :)

I was amazed too, I've never had an animal like baytril before or take it voluntarily, it's incredibly bitter! I wonder if shes lost her sense of taste and smell in her old age 😅

She does look like she's playing a little flute doesn't she 🤣

I now don't even have to pick her up to get her to take her Baytril.. honestly I don't know how I got so lucky but I'm not complaining 🤣
