yesterday i had got a hamster, and my mom wanted me to hold him and when i did he jumped out my hand. He was hiding behind my cabinet at first so i went to go get something but when i came back he was gone... i haven't seen him since, please help!! i've only had him for a day!

I am so sorry this has happened. What I would do is put his cage on the floor with all his things in and some food and water. If everything is quiet I am sure he will make his way to the cage. You could also put some flour on the floor just to see if he is near by as you will see his little paw prints in the flour.

Hello. It must be very scary and worrying for you. There are a lot of tips for catching an escaped hamster on the home page - I'll link the advice below. Meanwhile - shut the door to that room to make sure your hamster stays in the one room. Try to stay calm and listen for any noises. If you can work out where he might be then sometimes just putting a tube down with a piece of cucumber or cheese at the far end (the end away from where the hamster is) means they just walk into the tube. So if he is under a cabinet then put one end of the tube near the front of the cabinet. When he's in the tube, put your hands over either end so he can't jump out, and pick the tube up and take it back to his cage.

I have had the same thing myself a couple of times! They almost always walk into a tube with smelly food in if you know where they are.

Rainbows advice above is good as well if you can't find him in the room. Although if you can't find him before you go to bed then would set up a bucket trap in the room - usually works every time! But do keep the door shut in that room. If he is behind heavy furnitjure it's best to tempt him out rather than move the furniture in case he gets injured if it catches his foot or something.

Keep us posted. I am sure you will get him back :) . When they are new they are quite skittish and can "ping" (ie wriggle free and leap in the air) when you try and hold them. Until they get more hand tame and used to you. A good way to handle them at first is in an enclosed area - eg a playpen or a sectioned off part of the room or hallway, or the dry bath tub. So they can't escape.

Hi, i'm so sorry this has happened. Hamsters can be so so quick especially when they are new and scared. He's probably hiding somewhere because he's scared but he will get hungry and come out eventually.
You already had good advice above so i can't add anything else. Keep a close eye on any other pets, especially cats if you have any so they can't get to him.
I hope you'll find him soon.

Oh absolutely! I saw you have a dog in your avatar so not only close the door to the room but keep any other pets out of that room for now too. Hamsters are prey animals (and a cat will see a hamster as prey unfortunately).

thanks guys, i really did check everywhere in my room i even took out the drawers but i didnt find anything so i hope that he's just sleeping somewhere cuz since he's a robo hamster he is rlly small

If he's in your room then just keep the door shut. He will be scared as well. I would set up a bucket trap before you go to bed.

In the meantime maybe do what rainbow suggested and put his cage on the floor - they often want to go back to their cage where it smells familiar. Although if you've only had him a day then his cage might not be that familiar to him either. If you hear any sounds, put the tube with cucumber or cheese in near where you heard the sounds.

In fact you could set up the bucket trap now ready for later. It's a bit of a fiddle! You need a lot of books, a ruler or ruler sized piece of wood, a bucket, a towel and some hamster treats like sunflower seeds - and some smelly food like cheese or cucumber.

Can you hear any sounds anywhere? You might be right and he's just asleep somewhere.

well not really my house is kind of noisy cuz my brother talks a lot and the tv is always on so i'd most likely catch him running around at night

He will definitely hide away if it's a bit noisy. They usually come out when it's dark and quiet so that's when the bucket trap is good. I had to use that last year when our Syrian escaped. I knew he was in a particular room as I could hear scuffling. So I set up the bucket trap in the middle of that room before going to bed and closed the doors to that room. He was in the bucket 10 minutes after I turned the lights out! I heard the clatter as the ruler fell in the bucket. Do you have any sunflower seeds? If not just a little trail of hamster mix leading to the books and up the books and the smelly treat at the top so they keep going up. A waste bin would do if you don't have a bucket.

But definitely keep your door closed! And if there's any kind of gap under the door, stuff it up with a blanket or something. They can get through quite small gaps. Obviously you'll need to go in and out of the room at some point! So just keep an eye out then. They are very good at hiding. I turned a room upside down once looking for an escaped hamster and didn't find him - but he walked back into his cage after dark (left the cage on the floor and a ramp up to it). The bucket trap is better though for a new hamster.

I agree. When it's dark and quiet is your best chance of catching your hamster in a trap like Maz mentioned. Robos are naturally shy and incredibly fast. They are likely to run off at the slightest noise. If you do hear him later, it would be best for you to stay put and quiet. If you get up or move around, he'd probably run off again unless you hear him going into the cage of course.

alright so, i've placed down about 3 thingies that might help me find him and i'm pretty confident i'll find him now but when i see him what should i do? he might run away cuz like i said he's pretty scared of me still

If you made bucket traps you'll have to wait till he drops into the bucket and then take him out and put him in his cage.
Don't take him out with your hands because Robos are so fast. Get him to walk into a jug and put your hand or something over it before you put him in his cage.

Did you do a bucket trap? That's the easiest way to catch him.
