Norbert Wrigglebottom

Hi all, my name is Anne, am my very recent new family addition is Norbert, a Syrian hamster. At this very moment I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of Norbert's new house. It is a glass, top opening vivarium, measuring 100 X 50 X 55cm. Norbert is one of a large group of hamsters abandoned at a local vet. He is young I believe, not yet tame, but much calmer than the frightened, screaming creature I brought home 3 days ago. He is taking food from my fingers, and slowly getting used to my smell. As a now retired rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary of 30 years, I strongly believe in research, research, research! There is always more to learn 😊
I look forward to chatting with you all, continuing to learn, and sharing my journey with little Norbert Wrigglebottom 👍😃
Peace and love to all,
Anne 💜

Hello Anne and welcome to the forum. Norbert is very lucky you found him. It is amazing he is already taking food from you in just 3 days. It is lovely to have you here. :)

Hello and welcome! What a great name as well. Poor Norbert having had that ordeal - but it sounds like he is in safe hands now :) . I think it's amazing he will take food from your hand already. He must sense he can trust you and pick up your vibes of experience possibly.

It would be lovely to see a photo of him as and when you have one or he's up to being photographed!

I think there is a lot you could share on here, that would be appreciated, if you had a rescue and rehabilitation place for so long. Beryl on here rescued/fosters hamsters.

Totally agree with researching. I found an older research piece the other day that had ascertained that animals in smaller cages had significantly more stress as their basal body temperature increased. I'll see if I can find it.

Hello Anne and welcome to the forum.
Looking forward to hearing more about Norbert as the lucky little fellow settles into life with you.

Here it is. I've added it to the resources section (top tab).

Well, i for one am very much looking forward to get chatting to you.
So glad you've found your way here.
A very warm welcome to you and the very lucky Norbert Wrigglebottom!

Thank you so much! I'm delighted to know that his taking food from me is good progress , but I think handling is a good way off yet. I will let him be in full control of that, his choice, no force, and no fear 🥰

Thank you, I really appreciate the warm welcomes here 💜 I did try and upload a pic of the little fella with my intro, but I must have miss-clicked something 🤦🏻‍♀️ I've made a video of him exploring his new vivarium setup, so hopefully I can that! I need at least 2 or 3 more bags of aspen tho to expand his burrowing area, but hopefully I'm heading in the right direction with what I have done so far today 🤞 Currently he is in hiding deep underground bless him 😃

A huge, happy thank you to everyone for the lovely warm welcomes 🤗 I am going to try and upload a video I've just made of Norbert exploring his new home a bit earlier so you can hopefully meet him 🤞 Vivarium still needs work, more substrates and suchlike, but hopefully it's not too bad of a start 💜 I am wide open to criticism, advice, ideas etc 👍Norbert's well being and happiness are all that matters, I only ever want to do right by him 💞

Ooh look at that little face! And he's so fluffy. He's gorgeous.

Just wondering what colour he is. Mink?

I have no idea 🤔😂 to me, he is 'soft brown and white' , but I am clueless when it comes to the official terms for their colours 🤦🏻‍♀️ So much learning for me on here 😊

I'm not an expert on colourings either :) Whatever colour it is, he's gorgeous.
