This is an ongoing thread for people to share how they found the forum. Feel free to add comments and other info as well as ticking the poll (or if something isn't actually on the poll).

I didn’t really find the forum, the forum found me!

And you took some finding ha ha!

After we got Wally, especially when I wanted to learn more from others with more hamster experience, I Googled "hamster forums" or something like that and it came up. It was this and Hamster Central, and I found the conversation here more engaging and consistent. I still use Hamster Central from time to time, but as many of you here probably might guess, this is now my "go-to" site.

I searched for a "hamster online community" on Google, wanting to find people who loved hamsters that I could talk to and maybe become friends with.

First, I found a website that listed "the best hamster forum websites", It was called FeedSpot. At their number 1 site there was a forum different to this one, and I tried it, and wasn't fond of it...So with "The Hamster Forum .com" as number 2 I tried it, and as you can see, I am hooked! 🤗

I heard about another forum on Youtube, but they had a CRAZY sign-up thing to fill out, including a letter to print and sent to their office! So I was searching around, then I found here. :)

That's how I found this forum but I also came across one (sorry forgot its title because I didn't stay with it ) it had some photos of hamsters in tiny outfits and posed in doll furniture I didn't like that at all

I was watching a Victoria raechel video when she mentioned joining the Hamster Hideout Forum, when I googled it I couldn't find it, but I did find this one :)

Yes the Hamster Hideout forum closed a few years ago. Partly the reason this one was started 😊

I came here from the hamster central forum which I joined years ago.

I was originally with Hamster Central (which is why I recognised a few names here), but left after my previous and final Syrian (Casper) had passed away. When I went back onto look for it - I realised that it wasn't as lively as it usually was a few years ago - so I did a google search and found this one instead.
Mweekie xx

I searched hamster forums in Turkish and this was the second result. The first result was the hamster board of a pet forum called 'hayvanlar'(animals), which I joined at first and then realized the community there was quite inactive, so I joined this one instead.

I was frantically searching the internet trying to get info on pretty much everything about looking after a hamster and time after time this forum came up in results. Very glad I found you all here!

Glad you found us 😊. There is an awful lot of contradictory info on the internet and some plain garbage as well! So when this place was set up any info and articles were based on reliable verifiable sources, professional organisations research and experience. 😊

Pretty much everything I read or watched online was contradicted by the next thins I saw or read. It was exhausting and overwhelming. I’m still new to it all and feel like I need to triple check everything and constantly look for reassurance but my goodness it’s been the most helpful place to read through and get quick, helpful and kind feedback from other people.

Before I found this forum I joined a couple of FB pages. It took day and days before any posts were ok’d for publishing to the page and a lot of people seemed quite harsh (not specifically to me- just a general tone across some posts)

Yes that has been found by a number of people. I think the format lends to it as well .............. some people get ridiculous and very holier than though and very rigid. It is true there are now guidelines as to cage size and bedding depth, and we also support those on here, but there does need to be a bit of flexibility sometimes and individuality and treating people like human beings - and some people just seem to like criticising  We don't have that on here :-) We have our own ethos. And some members have had many years of experience of hamsters and aren't just parroting rigid things. Also some members can be as young as 13 on here (although rarely). I hate to think how it must be for a young teen getting that kind of pressure on certain sites. Those of us who have been keeping hamsters a long time have also had to evolve with the new guidelines. However I personally had been using 100cm cages for many years anyway as had many other hamster owners, as experience showed the size was right, even before the new guidelines came in. Bedding depth - again I think there needs to be a bit of flexibility depending on the owner and the hamster.
