How much bedding is enough to fill up to 25cm?

As I talked about it before, I'm going to do a cafe cleanout, which means replacing all the bedding. First bag of bedding for I ordered, which is Oxbow Pure Comfort 72L, arrived today. The second bag, which is Kaytee clean and cozy 49L, is due to arrive tomorrow. I also bought spruce bedding from a conpany called 'Bulancak Mobilya', but it doesnt state the bag's weight in liters. It just says 1000 grams. Would all this be enough?

Is it a 100cm x 50cm cage? I would say your Oxbow and Kaytee bedding will easily give 8" deep. Not sure about 10" but it might. However 1000g of Spruce is 1kg which is not very big. I used to get 10kg of Fitch which is now sold as a 70 litre bag.

Having said that, if it's compressed bedding it doesn't always go as far as say 72 litres of loose bedding - the idea is that it is 72 litres after being fluffed up but it doesn't always quite work like that. I think 8" deep would be fine for him though if you find it's not quite enough If you're not sure I would get a second bag of the Oxbow pure comfort 72 litre - then if you don't need it, you have it there ready for doing a cage clean or spot cleaning.

It's 95cm x 57cmx 50cm. Fitch is not available in my country sadly. Maybe I'll fill up to 8" or a little past that and add more the next month, since I want to get the cleaning over with. I am hesitant to buy more bedding because all bags in total costed over $200 and they arrive quite late.

Yes it does get very expensive. I think you'll be fine with what you have already and 8" will be perfectly fine anyway. Also if you had 10" the wheel probably wouldn't fit height-wise!

Currently I have 10" on the front side of the cage and shallower bedding on the back where the wheel is. Maybe I can do something like that with the new bedding.

Sounds like a good idea Did you see on the other thread my suggestion to email Happy Henry Homes? They are in the Uk but apparently ship abroad and they make good multiroom houses - no glue

Yeah I looked at their multiroom houses. I'm considering buying one of their hides, but maybe next month, because of the customs tax. Also, I'm a bit wary because it's very common for items bought from abroad to get 'stuck' in customs, which results in the officers destroying them. I tried to see how much shipping would cost in their website, but apparently they don't deliver to Turkey. I'm really considering making my own multichamber house following instructions from this video

I think that is a great idea! Why spend money on one Topac won't care if it's cardboard or wood at all. I am tempted to try that myself sometimes - rather than a shoebox house.

The internal layout of the one on the front of the video looks identical to the original Rodipet houses - which, in my opinion, had the best layout because the front left room was the darkest and big enough for nesting in and the middle back room was the perfect place to put a corner toilet - all my hamsters liked the toilet right next to the sleeping area. If that particular house was turned upside down the largest compartment would be front left, which is perfect IMO

To give an idea - this was the internal layout of the original Rodipet multiroom houses. Bear in mind this is upside down so the left side is on the right in this photo. While they might look identical, the inner door is in a different position on one side to the other. So if you look at the right hand side - the inner door leads directly into the rear middle toilet tray compartment. Which you can't quite see on the photo but it's there. Which is what you want. And also that door is round a corner from the front entrance behind two other doorways so that compartment is then always the darkest! Whereas the other side, the door is BEFORE the central compartment rather than after it and doesn't lead directly into the rear toilet compartment. Sometimes I used to cut out the divider on the left side so it was just one large room and only have a divider on the right side - the reason for that was - the top hole is over the right side at the back and can let light in so you need the divider under wherever the top hole is - light doesn't go round corners or past dividers

I used that particular house, and a replacement, for a number of Syrian hamsters and they always slept in the large left hand compartment and always used their litter trays in the centre back compartment. If you put the litter tray anywhere else they wouldn't use it! They like to fall out of bed and go to the toilet without having to walk too far ha ha.

Even with deep bedding, this seemed to work - Raffy used to sleep underneath his house but still came up and used the toilet.
