Okay so, im getting a syrian hamster w a cage 100x50x50. For substrate im using hemp shavings, verse laga hay and paper ( all are safe for what ive researched but let me know if anything).
Since the hemp shaving arent strong enough to hold the tunnels and borrows, i mixed it with the hay and paper, as im doing this, i noticed that i dont have enough substrate, so, i divided it into a tall and superficial substrate cage, im worried i might have done something wrong, i used cardboard to split it since i didnt have anything else on hand rn because it was sudden and im not getting more substrate anytime soon because its all sold out, what can i do? 7762.webp
The cage isnt done btw, tomorrow i get the rest i need to start it and upgrade it but i need help w substrate to know if i should change something please!!

Hello. It's absolutely fine :-) You look to have plenty of substrate at the deeper end and a cardboard divider will be ok - you could actually just slope it and not use a divider at all but the divider will help keep it in place a bit.

I take it the glass dish full of items won't be like that before the hamster moves in? :-) One thing I'd suggest is some kind of large house on the left side with the deeper substrate, so the hamster doesn't feel exposed. A shoebox house is ideal.
