When the abscess has gone down and it's better. It could be an idea to get the vet to check her teeth - and/or you can have a look yourself if she yawns. Just to check her front teeth look normal, and not maloccluded (twisted or growing at the wrong angle) or too long. In case a tooth problem was the cause of it - to prevent that reoccuring.

Can ı ask you ? When your hamster was sick, did they let the abscess out with a needle? How was the transaction taken?

Bruce's had come to a head itself, so the vet just wiped it out with a cotton pad and gentle pressure. If that makes sense. But I've known of guinea pig abscesses to be lanced (popped) with a needle, then expressed.

Sometimes they don't pop though. I've had one! With humans they rarely lance them these days and the antibiotics make it go down. Obviously hamsters are different and have pouches as well - so it might depend where the abscess actually is.

Yes, that did occur to me. The back teeth or molars are more difficult to see though.

Yes that needs a vet - it's tricky - but the front teeth can be checked. Sometimes a front tooth growing at an awkward angle can cause an issue.

The vet took an x-ray. He said there is no problem with his teeth and jaw

I think Latte needs to be seen by an emergency vet if her eye is starting to protrude. Can you get an emergency appointment? There may be a build up of fluid or pus behind the eye. It sounds very serious.

I agree. She needs to see a vet again asap - it sounds like something is pushing the eye out. I have had this with a hamster and the eye did survive once the swelling went down, but it could also be painful for her and if the swelling continues, her eye could pop out and that would be very painful.

It maybe she needs an injection of antibiotic to speed things up and possibly some more treatment.

Try not to worry. You're doing the right thing. I'm sure Latte will be her usual self soon. She's very beautiful

I think his was below the eye. And a slightly different situation as his had burst naturally. I agree she needs to go back to the vets. Hope she's ok.

That isn't the news any of us wanted to hear, but you are doing everything you can do to help her, and so will the vet. Keep your chin up. Thinking of Latte

Very sorry to hear Latte has lost an eye. Hamsters do manage quite well using other senses as their hearing and sense of touch with their whiskers are very acute. Still, it must be very distressing for both of you. I hope she will heal and be OK again

Latte loves to eat fruit, but these days he can't open his mouth because of the swelling on his cheek. That's why I give antibiotics with a syringe. We started using it yesterday, but the swelling continues this morning. I'm very breastfeeding. I don't know what to do. The vet said it was an abscess. We took an X-ray and he said his jaw is intact

Try mixing the antibiotic liquid with some baby food fruit. Latte should go for that; it worked great for my Peanut when he needed meloxicam post surgery.
