Is the surgery today now One thing to think about is the option of asking the vet to send the lump to the lab for analysis to determine if it was malignant or not. If not it gives you peace of mind If it is then at least you know it has been removed. However this costs money and you might not want to do that. In one case my vet said they would consider it as research for themselves and they paid for it. It is not essential and you don't really need to know - it may not be worth paying extra money for. I am sure Gilbert will be back with you in no time x

Also did you manage to get a hospital cage/tank set up for him for post surgery? It means having a large bin cage or spare enclosure/cage. If it's a bin then just plenty of bedding a house and a tunnel and food and water. You can add other things but check things aren't scratchy for a sore ear or anything that he could catch his stitches on. You could just use cardboard items and one or two familiar things from his cage. But no wheel for a few days.
If it hasn't been possible and he is going back into his main enclosure, then you'll need to remove the wheel and possibly some other items - it's easier to put them in a hospital bin initially It's only for 5 to 7 days until they've had the post op check.

Sorry l’m just catching up on this thread. I hope all goes ok with surgery for Gilbert.
As Maz says- Mr Maggie has had surgery and was fine. He actually had 3 surgeries within about a month as the first 2 attempts were unsuccessful (pouch prolapse through hole in his cheek. First 2 attempts were to replace and stitch, but ended up needing partial removal of the pouch)
He was not hand tame so it involved the added stress of 3 times of being dug up, burrows destroyed, travelled, handled and then the anaesthetic and surgery!
Thankfully he coped fine and is still truckin’ now.
I didn’t have a hospital tank but I removed his sand and sprays and wheel to try and keep him from any post op problems.
Everything crossed for good news later on today. Xx

Fast or Not
Hi guys today i decided to bring Gilbert to surgery and doctor told me he has to fast 8 hours before surgery (he still can drink, but cant eat) but what i search on internet they said its dangerous for hamster to fast 8 hours? Tho im not believing internet 100% im still asking my doctor...
