More exciting cage news! Plaza with plexi

It is a deeper base - effectively! It is 10 cm taller but has 10cm of plexi above the base. The idea being I think that the bedding can be deeper and the cage still be the same height above the bedding. It means it would fit up to 25cm of bedding and still have about 37cm cm space above the bedding (ie not too much height and enough to fit a 12" wheel).

It's basically the same 50cm height as the current cage but they've added the plexi above the base to effectively make the base deeper.

Oh I see. I did not realise the height was all bars and not a deeper base.
It isn't :-) See above. Difficult to imagine without a picture. But it is the same base. Then above the base is the plexi and above the plexi are the bars. So the bars are the same height as before but between the bars and the base is the plexi.

I can't help thinking that 62cm is too high and find around 50cm perfect. They could have made the base a lot deeper by adding plexiglass to it like i did by adding acrylic panels. Will be interesting to see the new cages and read reviews from reliable sources.
That's what the Aura cage is :-) Instead of 50cm tall (which includes a 16cm (approx) base). It is 62cm tall with a 26cm (approx) base. (the base with 10cm plexi attached to make the base deeper, then the bars above that). So if the base/plexi are filled with substrate, the cage is the same height as the Savic Plaza 120 - ie 2cm taller than the Plaza 100.

That makes things clearer, I really want to see a photo of this cage now, hopefully one will be available before to much longer.

I hope so too. I suppose the issue might be that some people might buy it and not put enough bedding in and then it would be overly tall. Although the main reason for plexi is to fit extra bedding in and most people seem very aware of the need for a good depth of bedding these days. Anyone who isn't probably wouldn't get that cage anyway.

So the Aura is the same as the Plaza 120 with 10cm of plexi added?

Yes :) Instead of making a very deep base of 26cm instead of the usual 16cm They have extended the height of the base by 10cm using plexi. The bars then fit on top of the plexi. So the bars are the same height as the Plaza 120 bars, but the base is effectively deeper, hence the extra overall height.

It means there will be two versions of the Savic Plaza 120. One standard version, and one version to accommodate deeper bedding. I would think for a dwarf hamster, people would choose the standard version and add their own panels for deep bedding, so it's a lower cage (like I did with Pip's cage). But for a Syrian the Aura would work well.
