Mr Maggie's Diary

I can’t stop scratching 😳 I dreamt of them last night too. Went through all of Nibbles treats today inspecting 😂 scratch scratch…..

Note to self: don’t buy the toothbrush whimzees for Mr Maggie..!

I put one in his tank last night after it had been frozen for a week and it’s completely gone this morning! So he’s either munched the lot or dragged it underground for safe keeping!

Think he’s missed having a whimzee as I’ve only just been able to put that plus sprays back in now they’ve been frozen after the big bug clean down.

So far all seems ok- I still find the odd one on the outside of the frame and have found one in his water dish one day… all get squished on sight.

So I’m treating it as a success overall.

He will have seen it as an exciting treat and whisked it off somewhere :-) I wouldn't worry, you'll probably find it half gnawed somewhere at some point - in his house somewhere maybe. Mine often do that. It's also very funny watching them try and get through a house door with a whimzee between their teeth!

Ha ha! Yeah. I think he’s found it and made sure I can’t steal it away from him!

Mr Maggie has had a very busy few weeks.

He had to undergo another total cage clean out to get rid of the bugs that had lingered hidden within the hollow Bucatstate frame.

His tank was then sadly for him, a bit barren until all the sprays were safely frozen (I was taking no chances) during which time… a puppy arrived at the house and work started on our renovation project!

Poor Mr Maggie. 🫣 a lot to contend with!

He made himself scarce for a couple of days after pup arrived but seems to be much more settled now. Especially since all his sprays are back in to give him lots of cover. He’s still a bit nervous and so I’m just leaving him to it for a good while until he’s more confident again.

We moved him and the whole tank around the corner to my brother in laws house where we all stayed for 5 days while the wall was knocked down (renovation project). He was loving life completely alone in the spare bedroom- alas we have no such place at home!

I found a great big whimzee on hopes healthy treats- it’s a big standing hedgehog so he can’t drag it underground like he does with the toothbrush and croc ones!

Hopefully after a bit more time he will start to feel more secure and settled again and we will see a bit more of him again. (He’s always been very late in getting up and busy in his tank- but until he’s more chilled I’m not pestering him trying to hand feed or anything)

He is so sweet 😍 you have had a lot on lately, I hope you find time to rest now. 🌺 I would love to see a foto of the puppy 🐶

Aw poor Mr Maggie. But it's all done now and I'm sure he'll gradually settle down and gain confidence and make it his own again.

He is a sweetheart. I feel very guilty that he’s had so much upheaval but in typical fashion everything happened all at once. Was very hectic for us all! I’ll start a thread in the other pets section for pictures of Margot. 💛

All happened at once which was less than ideal but typical!

He’s doing much better since I’ve been able to put all his clutter back in again and he’s getting used to new smells and sounds

It couldn't be helped - I hope it's all sorted now. Fingers crossed no more pesky bugs. He'll soon make it nice and messy and stinky. I would hide 2 or 3 special treats daily for him to find - he'll like that and it'll distract him out of any funk he's in. Like a half walnut, or a couple of pumpin seeds or even a tiny friends yippee - not the healthiest treat but good for their teeth and mine love those.

Will do, thanks Maz ❤️

One of mine had to go through something like this and he did settle again - just a bit of time. He still loves you :-)
Thanks Maz. He’s had a lot to deal with since he came to live with us. Poor thing!

I’m in no rush. I’m just happy that I can see he’s been out and is moving about his tank more now the rest will come with time. I can blame him for being hesitant.

He’s not been using his sand to pee in but hopefully that will come back to being the norm. I’m going to leave him as long as possible before having to try and clean any of his bedding but he’s obviously going to have lots of soiled bedding in his burrows. 🫣

You know what I bet would give him a boost! A sunflower head. Mind you it would need to go in the freezer for a week first. They love those and spend ages picking all the seeds out. I wouldn't worry about any spot cleaning just yet - and yes I would leave it as long as possible too. He might even chuck out some dirty bedding himself - it's great when they do that!

I have one in the freezer right now! Along with a whole walnut in its shell. Should be ready in a few days.

It’s just a 1/4 sunflower head- I broke it up into smaller pieces to try and eek it out and avoid him getting too much at once but thought he’d like that. 🤞🏻

That's a good idea - some of them are quite large and they can demolish it all in one go. Although maybe two quarters as an extra special treat :ROFLMAO: Keep him distracted longer. Maybe put them in different places so it's more exciting.

I find it helps to keep talking to them through the cage as well after an upheaval and I spend a long time saying sorry in a sorry voice and explaining why it had to happen and so on. I swear they listen and tune into the tone :-)
