Mr Nibbles Diary

Nibbles toolk the pea down to his nest. He sat there half lying actually eating the peas with his eyes closed, the most adorable thing I have seen 😍 i didn’t take a foto because I didn’t want to disturb him with the flash. Such a shame though, it was such a sweet picture ❤️

We have got a new ritual after I put Nibbles back in his cage 🫣 he comes to the door and climbs into my palm and then jumps on the cushion and quilt. He has a sniff around the quilt gets a few strokes and then he wantes to go back to bed. The kitchen floor is currently too cold for free roaming 😂 I was looking for his taxi but no need for that! He just looked at me and climbed back in himself! I got a smug look of: and you spent time and money building me that silly ramp, duh 🙄
Is he mocking me? Or just checking out the escape route?
I am off to bed 🛌 late enough thanks Nibbles 😂❤️

He's a clever hammy ❤️ and very affectionate. You two are getting on so well 🥰🐾 Its lovely that you can stroke him 🤗

Yes he is very sweet 😍
But I still wonder why he has to come out of the cage just to climb back in after five minutes 😂
I think he wants to show me that he can get in by himself. Very strange 😅❤️

I suspect, knowing how Socks was, that hamsters are far more social and sociable than they have been portrayed. I think they get a lot out of spending time with their person and making some sort of contact with them. I think they don't always like to be touched, although I think they can learn to like strokes, but I think when they become more confident they love getting attention and having company. Humans have kept them as pets and for laboratory research for decades, but we have only a little understanding of hamsters compared to cats and dogs 🥰

That’s true 😍 and they are far more intelligent than most people realise. Nibbles seems to enjoy being stroked on the back, he doesn’t like it on his sides though he kicks my hand with he hind legs if I stroke the wrong place. He also enjoys a stroke on the head. But after a few strokes and a bit of sniffing the quilt he climbed back into the cage (he has done this the last two nights). My jaw dropped when he climbed back 🫪 he pulled himself up, and there was me faffing about building ramps and whatnot 😂
