Mr Nibbles Diary

That's amazing and nice that he is so settled now. I think alot of it is confidence in you. It is great that he is enjoying being stroked. Many hamsters never accept petting. You have a wonderful bond between you 🥰
Thank you 🙏 I am quite surprised that he seems to enjoy it. His coat is so soft 😍 like mink

Same ritual every evening, between 6.00 and 7.00 I quietly spot clean the cage, change the water and clean the wheel. As soon as Nibbles hears me he comes up and wants a treat. Sometimes he goes for a pee in his sandbath, not bothered that I am in there cleaning 🙄 a few stretches later he goes back for a quick nap 😴 then about half an hour later he resurfaces of course asking for a treat. He gets a few tiny bits of fruit or veg and then he’s awake. 😂
Aww I love their wee routine it’s so adorable. I love how he is so confident and just uses his sand he must really trust you. My girl has her routine of up after I change her water and scatter feed. She sometimes gets up when she smells something nice when we are having dinner. 😆❤️

Thank you 🙏 yes he does seem to trust me, he is very confident 🫶
I have put a small toilet in his house now, he pees there exclusively ❤️ it’s nice because his nest is always fresh and of course it’s easier to clean ☺️

No you can’t bribe Nibbles, not with anything 🤷🏼‍♀️🥴
He stops running when I tell him it’s bed time at 11.00 pm (max 12.00 weekends as not to ruin the ritual) But he doesn’t step out of the wheel, so I tip him out gently 🫣 no other option! It doesn’t bother him at all, he steps out and starts eating his titbits which are usually lying in front of the wheel (the odd sunflower seed, the rest of his yogurt drop ect).
Then he cleans himself and lets me stroke him, he likes it on his back and head mostly. Then he has a five minute nose around the playpen, climbs into the sandbath ball and waits for me to carry him back. 🤷🏼‍♀️ that’s how he wants it, only takes max 10 minutes and he’s happy. He doesn’t have a hamptrum when he gets back in the cage, he comes to the door and meercats sometimes, but he behaves a lot better 😍

You tip him out hahaha thats so funny and cute!! Chum tolerates a stroke in his cage when hes eating haha (not convinced he enjoys it mind!) but still cant be picked up as such.

If I tried to stroke Socks while he was in my hands, he would jump straight up into the air or "ping" as Maz calls it. I'm sure he got about a foot in the air. If I stroked him in his cage, he would stop what he was doing and clean his coat very elaborately and rather briskly paying special attention to the places where my fingers had been 🥰 You are a bit of a hamster whisperer ❤️🐾

I have no other option, and he doesn’t mind at all. As soon as he’s out he is eating treats and sniffing around. He already spent a whole night in the playpen one weekend as I fell asleep waiting for him to give up. When inwike up at around 5.30 am he was asleep in the house I put him in there! He loves his playpen. But now he knows when I tip him out and take the wheel out, it’s time for bed no messing around. He climbs in his sand bath ball and waits for me to beam him up to bed 😂

I thought it was a good idea for getting him used to be checked at the vet ect. he seems to really like it, he doesn’t walk away. Unless he’s in his wheel, then he has no time for that nonsense 😅🫶

I have not tried to pick him up. He climbs onto my hand if he wants too, if he doesn’t he will just try an push the hand away 🤷🏼‍♀️ for example if I try to scoop him up in the playpen. He then turns his back to you and starts washing himself. The clear sign of: I am busy, buzz off 😅

Socks used to do big flumps too, a sort of jump and push, but very sudden, and swats too when he was doing things and didn't want human hands interfering 🥰🐾

it’s amazing how high they can jump 🫣 when I picked Nibbles up I didn’t see them putting him in his travel box they deliberately distracted me I had to sign a contract. My friend watched though and afterwards she said in the car: you have just bought a miniature kangaroo 😂
