My Beautiful Little Hammy

Yeah. She's in bed at the moment. When she hears me going out of my room, she gets up and waits for me at the gate to her cage when I come back. Soon as I open it, she literally runs up the cage door onto my chest as I support her so she doesn't fall. Then she'll try burrowing into my t-shirt to get closer

Just done a 2/3rd cage change. A little change around. Some little treats dotted around and another substrate box away from the one she uses as a toilet. And all the time, I didn't get a peep out of her. She's pretty good like that. She doesn't mind at all. IMG20250829134916.webp

Does anyone have any hints on how to get a female Syrian hamster to let you trim her nails.?

Have a look at this thread towards the end :-) I've added my method on there.

She certainly is a little darling. Even though I'm in my sixties, she's given me loads of love and happiness back. Just gave her a load of shredded tissue in one corner of her cage tonight, and scattered some food in it. She absolutely loved it. If I could get her a bigger cage than the one she has, I spoil her rotten. Not that I don't already. Ha ha 😃
My Zelda LOVED toilet paper. I used to shred it into long ribbons and drape them in the holes of her spinner. She would run back and forth from her hide, ribbons streaming behind her, until they were all in the hide. Then she would settle in to do her "interior decorating" :)

My hammy does a similar thing. Straight to her sandbox for a wee, then she'll come up to the gate with a strip of tissue stuck to her. Occasionally she will pick up the odd stray bit of tissue for her nest. Id love to see how she's arranged her nest. Have even considered getting one of those little portable cameras that you can look inside drains with etc.

A nightcam is a great thing to have :) there are all kinds of options these days - I have this one. It works really well. I can view on my phone while in bed or watch the recording the next day. It has motion detection, so it's easy to see the activity on the recording The next day without having to scroll through the whole night's recording, Just the activity bits are shown.

The more I tried to do her nail, the more she was getting stressed. Once I put her back in her cage, I left her alone. She went back into her nest, and now she's back out playing about as if nothing happened.

Aw she'll get over it quickly - maybe a vet nail cut this time then :-)

Yeah. I'll leave it to the experts. She was ok when I took her last time. Not as expensive as I thought it would be. Had to take her by taxi, but I didn't mind. She's worth every penny I spend on her, and the love and happiness we give each other.

Hi. I've not seen my little hammy all day since I was up at 4.30 this morning. I've given her another little treat in her cage. I created another dig box for her. She has 3 now. It's in the corner. This one is a mixture of coconut fibre and wood shavings in an old popcorn tub. I also made a little step for her so she can get in and out.

Thank you. She's my little sweetheart as I call her. Being on my own, she keeps me happy. I love her to bits. She's always too there when I want to talk. It's a big responsibility looking after her. She relies on me for so much. Food, shelter, play, safety, and in return she is always happy to see me when I come near the cage.
