My little companion, Hammy

For the first time I was able to hold my hammy this morning. Though it was only for a few seconds, once she started wriggling I put her back. πŸ‘πŸ’•

Hammy is getting used to me handling her, already had her out 3 times. Each time I go near her cage, if shes near the gate, she'll stand up for me. given her a couple of treats for being a good girl.

That's great :-) Pretty soon you'll be constantly at her beck and demand ha ha.

I can see that already in her. I'm surprised she's learning as quick as she has.

I've had Hammy exactly 5 weeks now and it didn't take her long to learn my previous ones little trick. Bite bars and daddy comes over. Gate opens and run up it onto him for a cuddle. And I thought I was the one doing the training. Ha ha πŸ‘πŸ˜‹

Well, i'm pleased to say, Hammy lets me handle her now. She still wriggles a little but she hasn't bitten me once. As I open the gate, she runs up it onto my chest as I cup my hands round her to support her. very pleased with her, as before when I did that, she would try to jump. I've been doing the same thing with her once a day now, just for a minute, and the result is very rewarding.

I'd like her to be able to wee in the sandbox which is easier to clean, rather than keep disturbing her nest, where I knows she wees. Do you have any advice?

It's lovely she is tame already with you :) For the toiletting, maybe you could try adding a corner litter tray near where she's nesting, and put sand in it and a bit of her smelly bedding that's been pee'd on, on top of the sand. It's quite common for a baby/younger syrian to pee in their nest but they tend to grow out of it.

Morning all. Well, I put some sand in another box, and put it in the opposite corner to Hammy's nest, and straight away she's using it as her toilet. (y):) I'm well pleased with her progress. She's just having a play around at the moment before she settles down for the day.

That's really good! Glad that's working - they can be a bit like us sometimes - lazy to go a long distance to the toilet when just waking up, if there's something more convenient! Not that we would pee in our beds though ha ha.

She looks to have grown :-)

She certainly has. πŸ₯° She's well looked after, and always has her way of asking to come out. I'm proud of her. In the short time I've had Hammy, she has been tamed surprisingly quickly. But what I like most about her, she's gentle when eating, and takes her time, compared to my last one, who would just shovel what she could in her pouches and disappear πŸ‘

A nice healthy weight 😊. I bet she has a bit more growing to do as well.

Maybe a little bit more. But I think she's maybe almost at her ideal weight now. She was really good when I did it. No trouble at all. I'm just a little bit worried about her tonight, with it being new years eve.

This is Hammy who is approximately 4 months old now. I love the little routine she has when she comes out at night. πŸ‘πŸ₯° Hoping to upgrade her cage in the near future, to the Savic Aura Plexi. πŸ˜€ Absolutely adore the little quirks she has.

What a lucky girl she is. A mansion to move into.

She didn't take much convincing after I removed the plastic tunnel she was spending too much time in. Though I wonder if she is training me at times, when she stands up at the front of the cage, for me to come over and let her out for a cuddle
