Joining in the trend of buying this lovely cage. swampystorm and Maz have inspired me!

I have managed to put the plexiglass bit together (at long flaming last) but the two metal u shaped bits that are meant to touch will just not go in far enough. I have tried about a million times (well almost). There has been a fair amount of swearing and I have watched the lady on the omlet website calmly building the cage with no problems at all!

What is the purpose of those tiny double sided sticky things? I didn't use them.

Any tips re those ruddy metal u shaped things would be most welcome.

I got it with 20% off. Phew.

Ooh exciting Tulsi! I don't think the metal ends actually meet up in the middle - mine didn't. As long as they're pushed in at the sides - I think it's just strengthening. I also couldn't work out what the little sticky things were for!

I wonder if they plan to sell external tubes that stick on?

There are some on the website actually, but they're not big enough for Syrians really.

I’ve just posted about this on Tino’s thread but I’ve been having such a battle with myself over wanting to keep the Omlet! I only sent for it to review it, with no intention of keeping it as I have plenty of cages. And told OH it would be going back again lol. But I have been so torn! However I am sticking to plan (a) and sending it back for a refund - and buying a full Perspex panel for my existing plaza instead. Which I may end up regretting! As if I decide to buy it again later it will probably cost more when the deals are over!

The sticky bits are to put on the perspex panels to stick them to the base. I just cant see the point of that.

In the instructions they show the metal u things not touching and put a cross and show them touching with a tick. Glad yours have been ok not touching Maz.

I love the colours of it, esp white bars. I also like that most of the cage can have really deep bedding, with a shallow bit left for the wheel and the water bottle.

Will carry on trying to wrestle with the u shaped metal things and then set it up!!!!!

Aw I'm sorry you're having problems with those. Mine went in quite quickly and easily. It was a slight fiddle but they pushed up to the centre bit where there's a bit of plastic that, I think, prevents them going any further. So I assumed they weren't meant to meet in the middle due to that.

No I can't see the point of using the sticky bits either. The cage is perfectly sturdy without them.

Yes the white bars are nice :-) And the colour scheme is good. It's all very good design. Did you find the little screws stick out a bit on your removable side panels? I unscrewed mine slightly so they didn't protrude into the cage.

I really love the cardboard multiroom houses! and the perspex. With the 20% off I actually think it's not a bad price, because there's no wheel to buy separately and no money needed for a multiroom house.

See what you mean about the screws. One of the little teeny doors had come off and a screw was lose (not mine haha) in the box. It was quite a faff trying to screw it all back together, my lodger managed it in the end!

Didnt notice the plastic bit stopping the u things touching. Will investigate when I am feeling less lazy. I just wantI ed to return the damn thing yesterday but I am back to loving the colours and design today.

I have a hamster heaven, living world eco, the st elmo xxl (which sweetie pie is in) and now this omlet one. I have given away a few cages. I do so love hamster cages.

I must say the plaza plus perspex sides sounds wonderful.

I saw a review on youtube by Victoria Rachael who didnt like the bars on the omlet. She seemed to have listened to someone who had said that bars were a risk and a hamster might get a leg stuck in them. I waaay prefer bars as the hamsters can smell what is going on around them and can feel the breeze on them and I feel somehow closer to them being able to stroke through the bars and talk to them.

Mind you I love how easy to see the hamsters are in a clear sided cage. I am hoping the omlet will have the best of both worlds.

Now to try and let go of the hamster heaven. I really really love that cage.

This anti bar thing is so annoying!

I'm only getting one perspex side for the plaza :) It's the one end of the cage I don't need to screw anything to, to keep his layout the same. To replace all the bars with full perspex costs about £120. One panel on its own isn't so bad.

It's just because I already have two Plaza 100's :)

I also much prefer barred cages. So many reasons. And in about 10 years I have never once had an issue with a hamster getting a foot caught in the bars - it just isn't something that happens. The bars would have to be very very narrow for a hamster to get a foot caught - less than 6mm probably. Most hamsters don't even bother to climb the bars - if the cage is big enough. Except for the first night or two if they're exploring (in my experience).

I like that they dismantle easily for moving or cleaning or storing, and that they have good ventilation. It's more of a hassle to get deeper bedding in by using panels, but I already invested in the perspex panels a couple of years ago. But I would really struggle with a big tank on the floor, or even higher up. Although they are very nice as well - like the Bucatstate.

I think all hamster enclosures have their pros and cons, but bars are not unsafe and there are a lot of myths about them these days.

I can't wait to see your set up though Tulsi :-)

Ah yes. You have quite the plaza collection :).

I have assembled the cage and moved Kulfi in. I have put his current wooden cork lined wheel in with sand all round the bottom and the big wooden fence to hold back the bedding. He has the new cardboard house that came with the cage on top of the deepest part of the bedding and I moved most of his old substrate and bedding in with him. I kept a lot of his old hoard, poos and all.

He is definitely stressed (stretches and yawns) but has dug in the sand, played on his wheel and has now vanished into the large pile of substrate. Oh no he hasnt, he was dozing in his wheel. Aww. He has just got up onto the top of the substrate mountain and is eating some food that I scattered up there.

I love love love love the perspex it makes it so easy to see him.

I will post pics at some point over the weekend. It is so lovely seeing him out and about. I cant bear to turn the light off!

Ooh that is exciting! I also love the perspex :)

Here is the lovely hamster in his new pad.

He's so adorable and fluffy :-) That looks very nice - he'll love it. I see what you mean about the perspex so nice to see through :-) Is he using the house? This is me being ultra cautious - if he did happen to monkey bar across the roof (which he probably won't) I'd be a bit worried about him falling on the top of the fence - I've seen people stick bits of hemp mat on top of fences for that reason.

It's tempting me again ha ha.

Oo good point. I have got a large piece if soft hemp matting. Will get some pet sale glue tomorrow and stick it on the fence.

I want to make a fence for a platform so that he can get up close and personal with the bars.
