Hello hamster forum! I'm currently trying to get some more info on WHERE to get a hamster. I know what I need. I just need a Hammie! Syrian females cream coat (banded or not!) Like 2 months old! Been researching! I don't want to give in to a pet store but I need some Hammies in the Richmond/Sugarland area.

The lovely YouTube channel "Rachel got hamsters" talks alot about rescues in America. I highly recommend it. While you are searching for your heart hammy, we can give you advice about setting up and preparing for the his or her arrival. Welcome to the forum ♥️

Thank You so much! Will definitely check out!

Where in the USA are you? I'm in the States as well and may be able to help you find a rescue. Prowling your local Petco and PetSmart register areas may be an option (have gotten two surrendered hammies and their worldly goods for small donations to their Pet Charities). Also hop on Craigslist and search your area for "free to good home" hammies who otherwise end up fed to snakes or with animal abusers :(

Oh my gosh! People do that to hammies! I feel so awful! I will be doing that thank you!

Great news. What species is your hammy? It's a good idea to get everything set up before actually bringing the hamster home to avoid stressing them out by needing to make changes later. But most rescues want to see a cage set up first anyway. Or did you get one from an adoption centre at a pet store?

My hamster is my absolute dream hamster. She's a cream (or cinnamon, bad lighting) banded Syrian and I found her on Craiglist because her owners couldn't keep her☹️. She seems to have a Niteangel wheel, and colorful bedding from the pictures so I think she's was in good care ☺️

Congratulations on finding a little one to adopt. I hope things go well ❤

That sounds amazing :-) She sounds beautiful. I wonder if they'd sell you her enclosure as well - if it's big enough that is. Although maybe a fresh start would be better. Do you know how old she is? Female syrians can be notoriously maverick and hyperactive so they do need a lot of space. If you could stretch to a 120cm (47-8") rather than 100cm (40") enclosure I think she will be happy! She could be happy in the 100cm (40 inch) Bucatstate as well - they vary. But if you can stretch to the bigger one it avoids potential issues! The bigger one is a lot more expensive though and the 40" one is fine generally.

I revisited Craiglist (unfortunately my dream hamster is no longer available) and I see multiple Syrians(they don't look much like Syrians) overcrowded in 1 cage there are like 7 of them in there😭 and I see a little baby too. :(

I would be careful buying from the situation with the multiple hamsters. Your money would encourage the person to breed more. Also, the poor hamsters may be inbred and unhealthy 😔

I hope you didn't mind me removing the link - but I wouldn't want to advertise a seller like that on here (although I know you didn't link it to advertise them). It is normal for baby Syrians to all live together up to a certain age though, until they're old enough to be sexed/separated boys from girls and old enough to be rehomed. But that ad might have been a not so ethical breeder, breeding litters back to back for profit. We don't know.

Are there any hamster rescues in your area? They sometimes have litters of baby hamsters as well.

I have been looking around and not many of them have hamsters. Not many hamster breeders at least 3 hours close to me either. Do you guys recommend any other sites to adopt? Craigslist has supplies near me, but the hamsters are dwarfs or scams.

With 1 I could see 2 different hamsters in the picture and a little google camera logo in the corner they didn't bother to hide!
