Very disappointed ☹️
What does everyone else think?

Very sad. They also say some are suitable for 2 dwarf hamsters. I do not think they will ever understand hamsters needs nor care about them.

What disappoints me the most is that they are still trying to sell dwarf hamsters in pairs. Suitable for 2 dwarf hamsters. Until they kill each other.

The Savic Plaza is £80. So it's cheaper than any of the above. Hopefully people will buy that instead.

I agree Beryl. I can't bare the thought of 2 dwarf hamsters living together ☹️

That's bonkers. They're selling expensive cages that are too narrow. No sign of the Savic Plaza 120 on there yet ................

The "large" one is £175! And only measures 72.5cm by 37.5cm. I can't see them selling at that price when they don't meet the 100cm x 50cm recommended minimum size.

A lot of well meaning people are fooled into thinking expensive cages are great cages though and will therefore buy them. They want to give the hamster the best life and it doesn't occur to them that the pet shop might not know best, so they go for the most expensive cage. I do feel for these people as they mean the best but are just misinformed.

That's why those terrible Omlet cages are so popular. They're overpriced, but they look stylish and have good PR, so people buy them.

The modular Multipla cages also look very stylish so I'm sure some people will buy them. At least they can be expanded to potentially make a decent sized cage.

They can be expanded but they are so expensive to start with I can't see people buying addons and even if expanded, they are still very narrow at 37cm! And it says suitable for a Syrian as well. What really concerns me is the "medium/large" one that is very tall. If people buy those for dwarf hamsters.

I suspect their research team has looked at the fact that people are doing deep bedding and they've gone for a range with a deeper base that still has "popular" things like tubes, to help them sell.

I think they can be expanded depth/width wise as well as length-wise, so you could make it 72cm deep/wide. But, yes, it would be very expensive.

I wonder why they made the Medium/Large one so tall. If it were shorter, it would be a decent 80x50cm cage.

Just noticed there are two "medium large" ones. It was the crystal one I meant - it's about 60cm tall and narrow. Did you mean this one? Yes it is 82cm x 52cm but also 62cm tall, And also costs £99! That's more than a Hamster Heaven of the same size.

I wish they had stocked more 100cm cages, or at least 90cm. Savic said PAH had confirmed they would be stocking the Plaza 120 and he reckoned it would be available in September and online as well. Fingers crossed that comes soon.

Are you sure they can be expanded depthwise? I thought it was just lengthwise - apart from the one that can be l shaped. I remember we discussed them before when you linked them :) They would be a good idea if they were just 50cm deep! Just like Rotostaks would be a good idea if they were just bigger and had more ventilation (and no tubes)!

Actually there are three called medium/large. the 82 x 52 x 62 "Village", at £99, the 73 x 36 x 40 one at £99 and the 73 x 36 x 59 crystal one at £149. but why buy a tall 82 x 52 for £99 when you can get a 100 x 50 Savic Plaza for £80?!!! As Frida says.

I'm not totally sure but it looks like it ought to be possible, as long as the cage doesn't need to be moved at all.

Yes, I meant that one (the one that looks more like a normal cage). That one could be adapted into a good cage if you added cardboard/grass mats to the sides to raise the bedding level and reduce the height. I notice it even comes with a decent-sized wheel, a largeish front door, and it has doors at the sides which is interesting. I think it might actually be a little bit bigger than a Hamster Heaven in practice because the internal dimensions are bigger, and Ferplast cage bases tend to be more square than Savic bases which makes a surprising difference to what you can fit in.

I saw these on Amazon and got really excited as I love the idea of expandable cages… Being able to add on extra space as and when you can afford to is a brilliant idea especially as a lot of people start small and soon realise their hamster needs more space so end up having to buy another cage. Also Ferplast are selling lots of spares and add-ons on their website so you could end up with a large cage based around your hamsters needs and the space you have available. But it always comes down to money and the cost is so high you could buy a large NiteAngel Vista for an equivalent sized space for less money.
I do think that if the cost was lower and maybe when they start coming on eBay second hand / partly broken this could be an option. However, I’m not sure with the way they connect that they’re chew proof and I think you’re right Daisy once you expand them in either direction they don’t look like they’re going to be very stable.
I don’t know what you guys think but I’d really like to see more expandable options for hamster cages. I’d be very interested if Savic came up with something similar

I’m not sure about expandable options anyway. It’s best to start with a cage that’s big enough in the first place. Non the other hand adding a bit more on later could make it even bigger. But hamsters don’t live very long and need stability really. Better to just start with a big enough cage. One area where it could be handy though is where hamsters personalities vary so some could appreciate extra space adding on even if the cage is the right size to start with.

But as you say, it’s just not cost effective. I assume the high cost is import charges. Although Savic seem to manage ok without highly inflated prices.

The depth is the issue mainly though - it’s even narrower than a detolf.

Exactly. You could buy a Savic plaza with full Perspex for less as well.

And the plaza 120 is only £114 (although currently you need to add £50 for pallet delivery from Wales).

I think the range is designed to appeal to people who want space saving cages and like tubes - kidding themselves they can add on later (but probably won’t)

And also people who want something modern and stylish looking.

I wonder why they made them so narrow. Nearly all cages of that size have been 50cm deep for many years.

Incidentally- Ferplast never did reply to me after an initial standard (will pass it on to the design team to reply).

I had asked them to make a taller maxi duna multy - perhaps with a barred section between the base and top. It’s possible as they already do that with the duna fun large.

I find the curved base of the HH a real drawback especially as Pete seems to prefer gaps between things go through and run around rather than tunnel it means floor space is very limited
