Hi everyone. I've been a hamster owner now for almost 2 years. I have a lovely female Syrian hamster called Hammy. When I first got her, as she was small, she was obviously in a small cage. Over the course of several months I upgraded her cage size until she's now in a Savic Plaza 120. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas for cage layouts.

Hello and welcome 😊. Hammy has a lovely big cage. I’d suggest more bedding :-). Does she chew at the hammock at all? Fabric is a bit risky in case chewed but if she doesn’t chew it it might be ok.

To get more bedding in you’d maybe need some bedding panels round the inside of the bars. The cheapest option is cardboard - but - she might chew it off. You can get petsirct panels to fit round the inside of the bars but they are quite expensive.

You can also have a look at this thread maybe for some ideas

Hi Max. Yeah, I've been thinking about buying those panels for a while now. Like you say, they are a little expensive. I've considered getting them maybe one at a time, thereby spreading the cost. No, Hammy doesn't chew the fabric of the hammock. She does like getting into it and poking her head out the sides.

If she doesn’t chew the cardboard off you could just have the Perspex at the front and cardboard at the side and back maybe?

Sounds like a plan. Since I've had her, which is about 17 months now, I've took over 250 photos and videos of her. I know hamster's don't have a long life, but I've seen her grow from about 2 months of age. She is my little friend who is worth every penny I've spent on her.

That’s a lovely photo - she’s adorable. They can form a lovely bond with us and I find they get more tolerant as they get older as well.
