Otto chucked his cork tunnel out of his nesting corner and shoveled more bedding into it last night. He didn't use the tunnel. I put it there in case he decided to jump off the shelf.

He really does not like houses or enclosed spaces. He went under the bus shelter after i removed the front panel from his house but never slept or hoarded in it. I put a half panel back in to tempt him into his house but he just filled it up with substrate and didn't use it then so he has his bus shelter back now.

The bon bon jar with beech chips in a corner under a shelf was in his way as well. I watched him trying to squeeze past it to get into the corner so i've taken it out now and filled the corner with bedding. It could be that he wants to look out of this corner and i was worried that he could get stuck. He didn't use the jar and neither did Jack who filled it up with substrate.

He obviously knows what he wants! Their little personality quirks are amazing sometimes, I’m sure he’s happy now you’ve made it more his style.

That is interesting. So he prefers a more open set up. Its lovely he feels settled enough to rearrange things to his liking.

Yes, that is interesting because usually hamsters like lots of hidey places but not Otto. He seems to prefer a more open set up. The reason could be because he's used to it and maybe a little set in his ways. He had Carefresh in his old cage but only in one corner where he slept and i made the same corner into a bit of a burrowing area which he made into a nice big cozy nest. I think he's too comfortable now to move into a house.

It makes sense really if he’s been used to that then a house must seem quite strange to him.

Otto's left eye is still playing up so i'm going to get him checked out by the vet.
I need to get some photos first in case the eye is fully open on the day of the appointment.

That sounds like a sensible idea. I hope it all goes well when you get the appointment.

Sorry to hear Otto's eye is playing up again. Maybe it's an infection. I hope the vet can help him out there.

I hope Otto’s eye isn’t anything too serious, maybe he’ll need some drops but I hope all goes well at the vets.
Those kind of things do always seem to magically disappear just when you make a decision or take them to the vet! Photos are a great idea.

I got a good photo of Otto eye on waking when it's not open properly. It does feel a bit crusty and bathing didn't resolve it so i'll make a vet appointment tomorrow. Sometimes they have an appointment the same day so i needed that photo.

Glad you managed to get a photo. Hopefully you will get a vet appointment tomorrow.

Otto's eye looked fine this morning and he was very active last night. I sat there just watching him on his wheel thinking how happy it makes me to see a hamster who hasn't had a wheel enjoying his big Silent Runner.
I made an appointment for Tuesday when a hamster knowledgeable vet is available but could get an emergency appointment should anything change in the meantime.

Couldn't find Otto for ages and found him behind the sink pedestal. No hamster had dropped down there since Henry. Otto just sat there and looked up at me so i nudged him with my finger and he climbed out again. He was a bit annoyed and stroppy when i picked him up so i put him back and he went straight to his nest. He got up an hour later, had a wash, gave me a dark look and went for a long run on his wheel but didn't want to come out again. I've jammed a towel in the gap now. Maybe he's blaming me for falling down that gap.

He sat by his door and run off to his nest when i started to open it.
I think i'm not popular with Otto tonight.
