Pip the Robo

I am sure he will explore this evening when it is dark and he feels safer. He will be so happy when he finds the sunflower. :)

He might :) It's a big change again though and he might need some adjustment time. But I expect he'll want to use the wheel :-)

Photos of finished set up just before he went in. You can't see the inside very well for the bars and all the Fitch!

So many lovely things for Pip to explore. :) I like the hide with glasses. 😎

That was on top of his house before. I didn't really have room for any new things much. The cork branch would have gone where the pear hide is but gave up on it. The pear hide was under his old shelf and got ignored mostly. The only different things are the corner shelf and ladder, the cork tunnel (before it was just a piece of cork bark there), the carrot cottage (because it came from the other cage so will smell familiar). And the salt pig hide next to the rock thing - which I've had for years. Otherwise it's the same as before. His food bowl and water bottle used to be on the main shelf on the left originally and on top of his house in the Mickey 2XL so he'll take a while finding things.

There really isn't much water in the water bowl with those stones there!

Have fun Pip!
It might take him a while to settle but it really does look great & I’m sure he won’t be able resist exploring even if he does only come out when it’s quiet for a bit.
I just noticed that hide with glasses too, love it!

Maybe you could remove one stone? I used those IKEA tealights for Orko and he really liked them. He preferred them to the Niteangel one.

Pip's probably tired and will be out later. He should find his way about ok as it's a similar layout.
I use the Asda tealights which are the same as the ikea ones. Are you worried that he's going to fall in? I'd take the small pebble out to leave some room for water.

Thanks all :)

I hadn't actually noticed the glasses on that hide until I looked at the photos :-) I hardly ever looked at it properly! I remember it had them now but it seems more obvious on a photo!

Water bowls are very new to me. I might take one pebble out. But I'm adjusting to the idea of actual water in the cage that isn't in an enclosed bottle. So will see how it goes :-)

Beryl - I wonder if it will be familiar now after almost a month!

Here's the video anyway. I had to go and get my phone once he walked out of the pod so missed the first bit but he just walked up the ladder initially then headed for the dark gap under the rock formation. See what I mean about his long skinny back legs? I think there must be less fur for them to be noticeable like that. Mind he is about 2 years old!

Aww cute little Pip. He looked a little nervous but curious too. It is really interesting for me to see what a robo's legs are really like as I could clearly see Pip's in this video. Now I can see why they are good at jumping.

I like the fact he just dives down that hole. And then his little head pops up! I don't remember what his legs looked like before - presumably not that visible, but can't work out what has changed exactly, so assume it's just less fur. I've seen older robos look like that before with their long back legs. He is still looking skinny. He started looking skinny after I came down after 10 days upstairs mostly with Covid.

Thank you Frida :)

He looks amazing for his age though. He is still full of beans. :)

The taller cage, at that height, it's easier to see him. In the lower one, on box that is coffee table height - I was just looking down at him and couldn't see his face properly!

Then you get to see more of his adorable little face now. :) He really is so cute.

Well Pip has been out and whizzing around this evening and on his wheel? Definitely exploring and checking everything out. It seemed like a kind of mix of excitement and skittishness. He did a bit of everything then shot back into his labyrinth house. So it seems he's found it. I think he does remember the familiarity. I had the camera set up as well so will have some of it on the nightcam - it still came out black and white as dim lighting.

So a pleasant 15 minutes with both hamsters out on their wheels and both back in the living room. It's nice to have him back in the living room. And he does seem much more mobile now he's back in a cage with more to do. Maybe he just felt nervous in the Mickey 2XL.

Lovely to see Pip in his new set up, he looks adorable, a little bit nervous maybe but it sounds as though he got over that & really had some fun in there, must have been great to watch him after all the work.

Yes it was great to watch him last night. He wasn't nervous then - he was zooming everywhere and exploring and seemed to be enjoying it. Maybe a bit skitty as well at times but definitely enjoying the odd thing. It was nice to see him enjoying it. I have some nightcam video from late last night - I was actually setting up the nightcam in his direction, when he was out. The difference between him in there and in the previous temporary cage was very noticeable. And he is certainly fast still!

It was so funny when he dived down the hole and then popped up again.
