? Pouch abscess

Oh no. That does look like quite a lot on the second photo. It kind of seems unlikely that it's a uti as well, when she just had an antibiotic injection for her pouch, Did you ever get the ketodiastix? If so try and get a sample of her urine and test it and see if it is blood and also if anything else shows up as high (eg sugar or protein).

Just to be prepared, in case you do need to go to the vet again any time soon - is there an exotic vet you can find? I know you said the one you saw recently wasn't an exotic vet - even though she sounded very nice and did a good job of the pouch!

It does look like a lot but I think this is since Monday. She doesn’t have her sand at the moment and this is the first I’ve checked in her MCH since she came home from vet on Monday as she normally just used it as a doorway. So think this is 4 days of pee

I dont have any test strips and not sure how I’d get a sample to dip if I did?!

I really hope it’s the Hammykins as it’s got beetroot, carrot, red pepper and tomato in it and as you say she had an injection of antibiotics on Monday so would seem unlikely in that sense. I know beetroot can have that effect on people- assume that it’s a possibility with hamsters too?

I’m going to pick out any red veg for the next few days then put them back in and see if they correlate (assuming she keeps peeing in that room)

Vet is listed as treating exotics but wouldn’t say he’s an expert. I think closest specialist would be aprox 100 miles away from me.

You can get the ketodiastix online from Amazon or from most chemists :-) They're the same ones used for humans. I think what most people do to get a sample is pop them in a pet carrier or similar for a while. Then when they do a pee, it's sitting in the plastic base and can be tipped to one corner. I'm not sure if there's an easier way.

Apparently the best time is wake them in the morning when they're dopey as usually the first thing they do when waking is go for a wee.

Ah ok. Makes sense.

That would mean digging her up again though?! Feel like all I’m doing is digging up her borrows and causing her stress. 😩

I know, it's difficult. Maybe give her a few days and see if it continues.

You could maybe try a different food for a while and see if it stops?
I’ve picked all the bits of red veg and beetroot out of her portion for tonight and will continue to do that for the next few days to see if that stops the pink, then put her food back in as a random scoop with all the veg and see if it creates a return of pink pee.

There is a fair bit of lovely smelling red veg in the mix at a glance (see photo) and she definitely eats all those tasty bits and has been leaving the less juicy bits behind. I was running of HH tasty mix so since I got home on Sunday I was doing half and half with the Hammykins for a few days and slowly increasing to all Hammykins now.

I’ve left 2 flakes of pink peed on bedding in that room of her MCH to try and keep her using it at a toilet for now. 🤞🏻

I hope the mystery is solved soon. It did look quite pale but hard to tell.

It does seem unlikely it’s another infection due to the recent antibiotics, but it’s possible - and they can get bleeding from female parts as well. So it needs getting to the bottom of. Main thing is she is doing well 😊 I hope the next few days bring some answers.

It is pale (but pink for sure!)

When she had the uti previously it was definitely blood- much more concentrated, darker and unmistakable as blood.

She seems fine as far as I can tell. Will
Monitor closely over the weekend and see if the omission of the red veg makes a difference. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
