After totally falling in love with Orko I really want to rescue another hamster. I am making preparations for this and thought I would start a diary on here. This will not be for a while as it will take me time to buy everything but I thought some people thinking of getting a hamster may find this of some use.

First, I live in a small studio flat and did not think it would be possible to make the space but my partner kindly agreed we could swap out three seater sofa for an armchair for him. This took a while but now we have made space for a cage. :)

I bought a 10 inch Niteangel wheel when it first arrived in the UK as it was on sale. It spins really smoothly and I love it.

Yesterday I got a package from Rodipet. I bought a MCH, cork logs, ceramic toilet, rodent rock, grapevine wood and a log hide. Here is a picture of them. The wooden items have all been baked in the oven for 45 minutes.

I decided to paint the MCH in yellow plastikote for a pop of colour. I am not a neat painter but I like the shade of yellow. :)

I will update this thread when I next buy something.

Ooh this sounds exciting Rainbow! Have you decided on a species? That looks like one of the new Rodipet multiroom/labyrinth houses. They seem very similar to the previous ones from what I can see, except for having more adaptible roof sections.

This is great news & a great idea for a thread to help others too.
Lovely things to start with already, it’s going to be a very happy hamster.
It’s surprising how much space you can find when you want another hamster!

Thank you so much. That is such a lovely thing to say. :)

I am so happy that you are going to give another hamster a fabulous forever home!

To start this thread is a great idea and will help people who are thinking of getting a hamster and everybody else.

I'm very much looking forward to follow this thread.

Aw, thank you Beryl. That made me so happy to read. :)

Great idea for a thread Rainbow. I'm so excited for you. Just a little nudge from Albert and me: "russian hamsters are very cute and friendly" 🐹💕

Ha ha - you don't need to stay up late - I have an unusual one here and I am too soft. Most people get them out earlier at feeding time. But good point - dwarf hamsters can be out more during the day or early evening.

I'm excited to hear about your new hamster! They are a bit like Pringles, or biscuits - it's very hard to have just one!

I hadn't seen the new Rodipet houses before but I like the fact that the roof is in sections so don't have to lift the whole thing off to spot clean just one room.

Thank you so much Daisy. I really like the way the Rodipet house roof is in sections too.🙂

We have the Bucastate wheel that is basically identical to the Niteangel and I love it. I'll probably swap it out for the 12" silent runner when Cinnamon gets larger, but it's a great starter wheel for a small Syrian and I'm sure would be a great full time wheel for robos or Chinese hamsters, etc.
