Preparing for a hamster

We have the Bucastate wheel that is basically identical to the Niteangel and I love it. I'll probably swap it out for the 12" silent runner when Cinnamon gets larger, but it's a great starter wheel for a small Syrian and I'm sure would be a great full time wheel for robos or Chinese hamsters, etc.
Ooh now that's a thought - I hadn't thought it might be a Chinese hamster!

I have bought a multi-chamber style dig box. When I first saw this on Happy Henry Homes I knew I had to have it. It will allow me to provide different substrates and a hide without taking up as much space as having them separately. I will paint it with plastikote to help protect it from wee.

That looks great :-) A clever idea to have two different dig boxes and a house, all attached.

That does look really nice, I can see a ham loving that.
The only slight draw back I can possibly see it that whatever goes in the dig boxes can’t be too deep with the entrance hole to the hide, still love it though!

It's difficult to tell from the photo, how high up the entrance hole is - maybe 2 inches? I see your point though Elusive -some would spill inside the house - but maybe that doesn't matter, especially if it's an additional house rather than a main one. It will be very interesting to see how a hamster uses it.

The hole is 9cm high so I feel you would get a decent amount of substrate in it. :)

That's higher than it looks then :)

I take it there is a hole on the outer panel to get into the house and from there into the dig boxes?

Yes there is. You can also move the lid of the house to whichever part you prefer to.

So if turned upside down it could just be a corner house?

Just catching up with this thread, what a fabulous idea Rainbow, how fantastic to be looking to give a home to another hamster that needs help. Looking forward to following the journey. 😃

Thank you so much Zara. :)

Next purchase, a carrier. This is 30cm so perfect for a hamster.

Excellent carrier - it's identical to mine! I did a double take when I first saw the photo ha ha. Ooh that's my pet carrier. It's the ferplast guinea pig one isn't it? Maybe blue is the only colour option. I really love mine - it has a nice wide base and been used for a few hamsters.

You’re getting well prepared now! They are great carriers, not sure if mine are the same size but the same type anyway & they’re really good.

Yes that is the one. It also comes in red and green. 🙂

Ah so it does come in different colours. I thought they were all blue. I'm very fond of mine. You can easily fit a small house in and lots of bedding. I'm still cautious about carrying it by the handles though so tend to still hold it underneath as well.

I would not carry it with the handles either. That does seem risky. Its good to know you like it.🙂

Albert has that one too. I got that one because the hamster size one seemed too small. When I use it I fill the base with bedding and add a hide. I also scatter a bit of food.
