I’m currently trying to plan Tino’s retirement set up. Just the middle and right end - I’ll leave the left end and his house as it is but will put the house on shorter legs so it’s a lower slope to the roof.

So as he likes being quite active but can’t use his wheel I was think of some kind of level circuit round his cage with a mix of rat tubes and low level shelves just above the substrate - similar idea to a roof run but near floor level. So he can still get exercise in his cage without using a wheel and has places to go.

Now I just need to work it out with what I’ve got - various shelves and spare rat tubes. He’ll also have his new forage box/hide wheh it arrives. The plan is also to put hemp mat over his bedding so he has a level surface- but only outside his house area. And probably hemp mat on the shelves as well so they have some grip.

My creative juices aren’t flowing at the moment but hopefully they will once I get started! It won’t be just yet as waiting for a couple of things to arrive.

So I might have to scale that down a bit. Tino has been using his wheel tonight. For a good 3 to 4 minutes. Not running fast, but faster than walking. It's 2 to 3 hours after his meloxicam.

Great news he’s obviously feeling a bit more comfortable!

I wonder if the pain meds re accumulative? As in they start to have a better effect once they’ve been on them steadily for a while?
