Second chance hamsters

Lawrence is tiny and sometimes goes up too far on the wheel and plonks down. I know it's common in Robos and the MouseBro is fast. I've tried two other wheels but he likes this one. He also uses the saucer.

Now i'm wondering if i should get him an enclosed wheel but he would probably still plonk down and land on the wheel instead of the substrate.
I'm not keen on the Trixie wheels because Trixie seems to have done away with quality control so it's very hit and miss these days.
Not keen on spending a lot of money on a Niteangel which leaves the small Savic Orbital or 9in Silent Runner.

Hmm, thinking aloud but always appreciate feedback from the hamster community on here.

He looks so cute and tiny. I would have recommended the Niteangel but then read you are not keen to buy one. Orko was tiny but controlled that really well.

Maybe in time Lawrence will get used to the mousebro and be able to control it.

He does look so cute there.

I don’t think the Niteangel enclosed wheel is available any more anyway.
I do like an enclosed wheel, never had a robo but a baby Chinese isn’t a lot bigger & they seem to do well with one. I’ve only used the Silent runner apart from one very noisy Trixie wheel that went in the bin years ago but I do really like it, it is well made, spins well & is very stable too, I’ve never had any issues with it.

It is available in 10 inches. 🙂

I’ve always been the opposite with robos and prefer open wheels. They might jump out while running but at least they won’t hit the front of the wheel if they try and jump out and miss a hole! Pip goes up the side of his too.

Sorry - I forgot Rainbow had an enclosed wheel before - and didn’t have any issues so maybe they just get used to it.

I tell you what Pip had when he was in his temporary cage though - the 8.5”
Savic one that came with the plaza. It was ok actually!

Pete has one open wheel and one enclosed he doesn't fall out of the enclosed one but I think a smaller hamster would still drop if up near the top

Yes, that's what i'm concerned about, that he'd hit the front of an enclosed wheel at speed.

The other two Robos are fine with the MouseBro but Finley is bigger and Bernard is heavier. All three love that wheel though.

Lawrence runs so incredibly fast and the combination of tiny, lightweight hamster and speed is literally elevating.

I'm leaning towards trying the small Savic Orbital because it hooks onto the bars and has a wide running surface. He pees on and scents his wheel so it has to be easily removable for a wipe over. I just realized that i couldn't put a Silent Runner on the stand because he built tunnels in the wheel area.

Hopefully, he'll grow into a decent sized Robo yet.

I've just ordered the 21cm Savic Orbital to try. I should be able to put both wheels in like i did with the other two i tried. Both were briefly tested and then ignored by Lawrence. If he insists on the MouseBro even though he falls out of it, then so be it. There's plenty of substrate around the wheel.

Lawrence weighs 24g which is a normal weight for a small Robo.

I'm not sure if he rolls in his sandbath because he still looks a little scruffy.

Maybe he likes a smaller one like Finley does. I'll put a ceramic hide with sand in his cage but leave the bigger one in as well.
