Sheep's wool as bedding?

Hi all,

So, I have just purchased some speciality cheeses from The Ethical Dairy, and for their packaging they use a little ice/chilled pack, then wrap the whole lot in a "pillow" of sheep's wool in a biodegradable plastic bag, to insulate the cheese from any heat.

I now have a fair amount of sheep's wool and am scratching my head on how to use it! Would it be safe bedding for Obie? Or too hot?

Unfortunately wool is not recommended by the RSPCA in case it wraps around a leg or paw. It's a pity as it is wonderfully warm

Ok, thank you. I wanted to find out before I went ahead and used it. I'll have to think of another use for the wool

It's a nice idea, but like other types of fluffy bedding, it can have strands that wrap around a hamster's legs or teeth unfortunately. What it would be good for though is cage insulation! In cold weather people sometimes wrap cardboard or insulating material around the base of the cage.

you can make lovely little animals by felting. I made some reindeers for the christmas tree by using my cat hairs after grooming. i bought a few other colours and they were quite sweet. I will see if i can find a foto.

Aw, they're gorgeous I've tried a bit of felting, it's great fun. You need a needle and some foam to use as a base, I think. Perhaps some wire for the legs It's easy to buy equipment on eBay.

Aww thanks they are a bit funny looking but I was pleased, it’s a nice memory of my little cat I bought the kit from the euro shop but it didn’t have the finger protection I stuck the needle through my finger so many times and got fed up

Yes, you can get special finger protectors, also nice and cheap. Mine got pricked too

Oh yes, this IS a good idea! They are the right size and shape for this.

They are very easy to make. I made a rough skeleton with pipe cleaners wrapped the wool around and then you bash them with the needle mind your fingers though, I pierced mine several times. There are tutorials on YouTube. It’s easier than it looks
