The Plaza is a great cage! Welcome to your new home Chumlee 🏡 Looking forward to hearing about your experiences of settling in ❤️
This is Hugo's thread :-) Hammy Chum just replied to it :-)

The new cage has arrived! I'm still waiting for some of the things I ordered from Etsy and I want to add in more shelves and a sand bath, but I feel like it's a good start 🙂

Hello! Just thought I'd say hi as this as literally us!! Habitat 2 cage, and we upgraded Chum to the plaza 100 a few days ago!!

Chumlee is quite shy but he will take food from our hand - he's got a bit shyer since cage move but the savic is SO much better! We really struggled with the Habitat - also having to take the lid off cage completely to clean etc.
That sounds great, so glad the new cage has worked out well for you. I'm sure the shyness will be shortlived 🙂

That looks great :) Hugo looks very sweet and he's a lovely colour. Don't be surprised if he's a bit skitty for a few days to a week after a cage change - they need adjustment time and to scent mark everything and work out where they're going to sleep etc.

One question though - can he actually get up to the green shelf? I guess maybe onto the house roof, then the platform behind and onto the shelf?

Thanks. I kept everything roughly in the same places as they were in the old cage, like you said, and I carefully transferred over his nest, food hoard and wee spot to help him navigate round.

I had a plan with how I wanted to set up the green shelf and the wooden shelf but in real life it did not look like I imagined it so I had to improvise a bit. In theory he should be able to get on the green shelf by either climbing on top of the house then the wooden shelf or from the shoebox to the wooden shelf. I couldn't get the ladder in at all for the green shelf so I wasn't able to use it. I was thinking of putting some thing (stepping stone type shelves?) on the other side of the green shelf so he's got another way to get up or down. It looks like he's been up there during the night but I might put a bit of cucumber on the shelf this evening and see if its gone by the morning to make sure 🙂.

It sounds like he's found his way up there fine :-) I just couldn't see well from the photo. I don't think stepping stones would help though, they like something fairly solid to climb up. He would probably ignore them and go up the other way ha ha. Sometimes even when you have a ramp, they ignore it and pull themselves up onto the shelf.

I sometimes use a cork log part under a shelf so it makes a kind of ramp if they run up the side of the cork log, and it also makes a nice big tunnel that leads under the shelf. But that may block his house maybe?

I might buy a Cork log and see if I can squeeze it in. I would like to have something on the other side of the green platform if I can but his wee spot is front right hand corner near the door so I don't want to block that...unless I stick the sand bath there and hope he uses that as a toilet 🤔. I'm rubbish at hamster interior design 😂.

I am also rubbish at hamster interior design :ROFLMAO: I end up with things very symmetrical usually and tend to stick to - house left, shelf right, wheel centre back (or vice versa - house right, shelf left). And then fill in the middle with bits and pieces!

It does look like there may be space for a cork log on the right hand side nearer the front/end - on that end of the shelf. As long as there was space for him to walk round the front of it to get to his wee spot.

I get them from this places, as you get the exact piece shown on the picture so can get one that fits/right size etc. They usually deliver very fast too.

There are different categories under the "shop" heading. These are the tunnels. I tend to go for one that's fairly high to make sure it makes a ramp for a shelf. Although the shelf could always be lowered or raised a bit to work with it.

Thanks! I'll definitely have a look at that website.

Hello and welcome to the forum (a little late I know). Hugo is gorgeous, looking forward to seeing how he gets on with his lovely new home.
