She has never really cared about sand much, I know she needs it but I haven't once seen her roll over in it, she'll dig in it if there's food buried but otherwise doesn't care for the stuff at all. She has much more fun with beech chips and coco soil. Not like Paŭ who loves to dig, and have a good roll around in his sand :)

If I've had hamsters who have stopped using a wheel - maybe after a clean - or the wheel being cleaned or some other change - I usually find if you put a smelly treat in it for a couple of days they start using it again. That could be worth a try. She used to love her wheeling didn't she?

She loved using a wheel before her stroke. She was too wobbly to use one for a while but then started using it a little again but now seems to have completely stopped, at least in the day/evening.

She just had a brief session of floor time

She’s certainly having a good run around & not too much spinning.
I wonder if maybe a smaller area with less in it might be better for her, perhaps a little dig box or something with a few of the hides?

Thats a good idea, I'll have a think about what might work. Problem is finding room to store something like that. My room is very cluttered now I have two hammies in it!

You should see my room, I might only have one now but I have so much hamster stuff!

I agree a smaller area might be better and maybe something on the floor so she doesn't slip?

I have one of those pop up playpens that fold down flat to go under an armchair.

Snowy seems excited to be out.

Turns out that the bigger substrate box just fitted in when rotated 90 degrees. This freed up just enough space to squeeze in a third box!IMG_20230326_194351_copy_1457x819.webp

Rotated the lid of the new box around. Realised there was a slight limb trapping hazard between the box and the edge of the shelf that's solved by having the entrance in the opposite corner.

Are the boxes on stilts? Just wondering how they work and what they're made of.

They are clear acrylic boxes that come with wooden lids. There is an MCH underneath the two boxes that aren't on the shelf.

They are really nice.
I forgot that this cage has a shelf. It really is ideal for Snowy.

Yeah I think it's a great enclosure for older and less mobile dwarfs, I'm very happy with it.
I know I've already said this but I reckon if they did a version just over 600 square inches that it'd be super popular!

I'm no good with sq in. 600, would that be around 80cmx50cm like a Hamster Heaven?

How is Snowy coping with the changes now? Just wondered if she'd started using her wheel again yet. Maybe put a treat in it?
