Does anyone else have weirdly friendly hamsters? If so what are we doing to give them the time with people that they seem to like? My little guy, Terry, is so incredibly friendly and really seems to love coming out of the enclosure. He was an itty bitty baby when I got him and every single day I give him some form of treat (usually some millet) directly out of my hand and I’m not sure if that’s made him friendly? I’ve done the same with all of my hamsters and it seems about 1/3 of them end up like this. Terry has never once bitten anybody, never peed outside of his enclosure, and will hop right in your hand. The weird thing is I don’t take him out a ton. He’s content (no wall surfing, aggression, signs of boredom unless you count clocking 30+km per night in the wheel and ignoring most of the other enrichment most of the time lol) in his 8sq ft enclosure and I have a lot of health issues so handling isn’t always something I do with a critter that moves around a ton. Obviously everyone gets fed but if it’s a high pain day I’ll handle the gecko that is chill just watching tv with me. My boyfriend usually takes him out every few days to have a run about but you’d think this hamster is out for an hour everyday with the way that as soon as he can hear us in the room he pops out and sits on his bridge (where he gets treats and picked up from) and just waits for a treat or to hop into a hand. Should I be prioritizing taking him out more if he seems to like it this much or is just from the treats?
