I have a question about the amount of veg to feed daily. With Chubbs I always gave about a tablespoon of his hazel hamster mix a day. And it must have been enough because he always had a hoard going. But I thought I knew what to feed for veg but now I’m starting to think I might have it wrong. I was feeding a piece of veg daily. But recently I watched a video with a guy who had several Syrians and he did up a little “salad” bowl almost. A variety of different veggies in a bowl. Probably a couple of tablespoons worth. I thought that was too much? My Guinea pigs get a salad every day but they are huge and obviously a completely different animal. I thought feeding more than a piece of veggie a day would cause diarrhea? Thanks!!!!

Socks gets a salad bowl every day which he enjoys. I have guinea pigs too ❤️❤️ who live indoors so the lettuce and cucumber are at the top of the shopping list and Socks loves them, especially the cucumber. I sometimes find shreds of coriander in his hoard and bits of carrot. I think the small portion limits are to avoid having lots of mouldy fresh food underground. Strangely the odd bits I have found were well preserved. Some foods Socks will eat right away, such as freshly sprouted sunflowers. He delights in climbing into his veggies bowl to pack away his greens 🥬🥒🐾

It's only recommended to give a small piece every day for hamsters. Yes if they ate too much it could lead to diarrhoea but they may well just pouch and hoard a lot of it and then it goes rotten, I find they are quite happy with a small piece every dayand still look forward to that and get excited about it. They actually eat very little daily but I guess presented with a plate of favourite food they could get a bit greedy.

I do wonder if this guy does it every day.

Oh good! I will stick to what I’ve been doing so far!!!! Cucumber was always a hit with Chubbs!

Yes Chubbs really liked the cucumber! My pigs are growing like weeds! And they are absolute monsters!!!!! What do you have for a cage for yours? Mine need an upgrade but they don’t sell proper sizes for them here. Can make a “C & C” grid one but wondering what other options there are!

Great to hear your piggies are doing well. My boys came sharing a 4x2 Ferplast, but I wanted easier access so I set them up in a 6x2 Kavee with Songmics panels for lofts. Unfortunately they don't get on anymore, so live in adjoining 3x2 Kavee/Songmics apartments with 2x1 lofts. They love shooting up and down to and from their lofts and sleep up there, gazing out of their beds. The Correx base is only 7cm high and wood shavings and hay leak out (especially when Truffle kicks sprays of it into the air). But they can see out over the lower Correx, which is nice. I put up acrylic sheet to help hold the shavings. I used reusable cable ties but some people use foldback clips. Both piggies chew (and possibly swallow) the Correx, so I bought slide binders and nibble guards to stop them chewing it. Some parts are covered in fleece and held on with foldback clips and a hair grip. I used cable ties everywhere
to stop the panels from falling over as the clips pop out very easily.
