Vet fees 2024

It is all a bit odd considering that hamsters and other rodents have been kept as pets for years now!
 
The other thing is that people are going to be unwilling to stump up a lot of money for a vets visit when in reality they are most likely to be fobbed off because the vet doesn’t actually know anything about hamster care 😏
 
Yes, unfortunately, it becomes necessary for the owner to know what is going on, at least at some level, but the vet has such authority. Guinea Pig teeth are such an issue, but many vets know hardly anything about dental care and have hardly ever done any guinea pig dental work. Digestive issues might be tooth related, but vets often don't have the equipment to examine the molars properly. You don't want to rock the boat either.

Small rodents may be seen as creatures who bite, carry zoonotic diseases, won't let you cuddle them, are small, delicate and difficult to handle, but easily dropped. Vets would probably rather treat dogs and cats. If a hamster really decides to bite, it must be quite difficult to avoid getting bitten.
