Waffles

Playpen time is going well but waffles is still a diva .
You know how you're meant to put in some tissue etc with your scent on it. Well I was trying it again with a piece of kitchen roll. And erm well Waffles literally attacked the kitchen roll shredding it while hissing. I give up. Lol. I keep telling her it's a good job that she's cute!! (Lol)
On the plus side she's loving the playpen time. And uses her hammy taxi well. Meanwhile Poor Bruce is loving the quiet life eating snacks and having a potter about. He's so placid. Unlike madam.

Sounds like she's just territorial over her enclosure, good job trying the tissue though! No bites or anything in the playpen? Some hams just need to be on neutral ground, and both her and Bruce are adorable

I need to get gloves. As yip she tries to bite in the playpen if I put my hand in. However if I'm holding her "taxi" (one of the small plastic pets at home houses) she doesn't try and bite she just jumps into it to go home.

Raffy didn't stop trying to bite until he was on the same level as me on the sofa, oddly. He did in the playpen. When we were on the sofa I'd just be sitting there and he was running around and it was the first time I was able to handle him. He was a Syrian though which is maybe a bit different. I did almost laugh at her attacking the kitchen roll though.

I'm beginning to think that she was either grabbed or thrown due to biting or something in her old home.

It's possible. Raffy had been a child's pet and didn't like hands - we have no idea what their earlier lives were like sometimes. Some dwarf hamsters can be a bit notorious for this though. Have you tried her with music? Maybe a certain composer will reach her inner calm!

Henry was very nippy at first too, and never okay with handling until late in life. Don't give up, it just might take a while. It's so worth it though
