Ive spoken alot on here since October of last year when we upgraded our hammy Puddings cage to a bucastate one but he freaked out and hated it so we went back to the old one.

He has since been bar biting continuously.

We got a new playpen which he is enjoying but just still seemed unhappy in the current cage so we have slowly reintroduced the bucastate and set it up completely as his old one was with stashes and he has been going in gradually each day for the last week or two and having a nap in there.

We transitioned him fully this morning and so far so good!!

Oh that's really good news :-) Well done. Might be good to leave hjim alone for a few days now while he adjusts - although some adjust quicker than others so if he is wanting to come out you'll probably know.

It looks amazing and it's a clever idea to have that fence along the front if he was spooked by the open/clear front previously. I don't think he could fall onto that could he? ie there's no way he could get to the roof vents and drop is there? They can be quite hard to land on. Some german owners used to stick little bits of hemp mat along the top of bendy stick fences :-) But I can't see how he could get to the top looking at your set up.

Some manage to climb on something and get a grip on the side vents, but as a dwarf he wouldn't be able to reach the top from there.

I'm really looking forward to more updates now! I bet he'll love all that bedding and the peep hide at the front - when he's explored and found everything :)

Some hammies do need more of a transition than others. I've usually done a transition for at least a day as it really does help them settle quicker.

Yes been through and done a safety check he cannot get to those bits from anywhere and his slightly higher wooden platform if he jumped out which he rarely does it over paper and only a short height above.

He is so calm, im so pleased, came in this morning to find lots of burrow holes and he just popped out for breakfast and hate a munch and went back down one of the burrows

From the poop trails it looks like he was quite active in his new bigger wheel last night too.

Very tempted to get a hamster cam now to watch his adventures!

Thanks for all the advice so far its helped so much with getting him into a happier environment

This is wonderful news :-) So glad he is happy and enjoying his lovely new set up :) I love having a hamstercam! They used to be fairly inexpensive. The one I used to get was about £30 (I had to replace it when someone knocked it over and it broke!) - but that changed manufacturer and the replacement one was terrible quality so I sent it back. I now have a Eufy one, which is brilliant - very clear and very easy to see when the hamster was out from the recordings the night before (it has motion detection so it shows in a different colour what time the hamster was out so you can just look at the coloured section and not have to scroll through the whole night before). You can view live on your phone as well when you go to bed :) I've found it very reassuring at times and it's also shown me when a wheel was jammed before. It wasn't cheap though, it was about £50. I think other members have different ones so there may be other options. The Eufy one doesn't have any subscriptions though, so no monthly fee to access recordings - you just need a micro sd card to put in it.

How wonderful, this is lovely to hear. Your patience with the transition is clearly working and maybe now pudding is a few months older, he’s also feeling more confident himself. He looks great in the photos and the enclosure looks fab. 😊😊
