What is the meaning behind your hamster's name? I bet there are some cute stories out there. 🐹

Oh yeah. I could quite happily go back to those days of 3 TV channels

The days when TV programmes were far better with 3 channels than there ever is with goodness knows how many channels these days. I'm on my soap box now - literally - when Coronation Street was worth watching, and all the rest. Oh happy days!

Tales of the riverbank was great.

I must see if there are any episodes on You Tube 😍

There are :-) I didn't link one as, lovely as it was, it was of its' time and these days showing animals with different species would be frowned on! ie a rat and a hamster together - although we don't know how they filmed it, so maybe they weren't actually together!

Googled "How was Tales of the Riverbank made?" and here's a screenshot of what I got, some of it anyway. If you want the video, it's over to you 📹😄

TALES F THE RIVERBANK.webp

Interesting - so it was filmed in Canada and then dubbed in the U.K. 😊. The voices were part of what made it good 😊

The characters do seem to be in close contact 😯 Perhaps they were trained as pups to be together. It is an engaging programme but for hamster owners who understand hamster body language, Hammy does not seem too charmed with his role as the hamster "skipping happily through the woods". He seems to be acting with gritted teeth most of the time 😄 The natural beauty is lovely though and it is inspiring and enchanting 😍

Not all actors do it for the pleasure. I dare say many do it for the money - or in this case an extra piece of broccoli or banana 🥦🍌😄

Our Syrian is named Maggie. She is black and white and looks a bit like a belted Galloway cow ❤️

She was technically a Christmas present for my children but she has subsequently become MINE! We all love her but only I am up at night to see her in person. Some may say I am obsessed!

The boys instantly wanted to call her ‘Bob’ then they suggested ‘Hammy’… I decided some gentle persuasion was called for! 😆

I had actually dubbed her ‘penguin’ while I was keeping her secret away from the kids during the week leading up to Christmas but knew that wouldn’t be a popular choice with the rest of the family so being black and white I suggested ’Magpie’ as it’s a nickname for the boys favourite football team- Newcastle United! It was a hit and they quickly shortened it to Maggie and it’s totally stuck now although I tend to call her ‘Miss Maggie’ for some unknown reason- Very formal! 😆

Lovely story! All exciting and lovely - I also fell in love with our first hamster :-)

We have a herd of belted Galloway cows nearby…gotta love a beltie 🐄😍

I have had my hamster for about a month now. I got him following a fallout with my adult daughter.
The timing was why I named him Benjamin; it is a Biblical name. It means "Favorite Child."
I thought it was appropriate and cute.
My daughter and I will laugh about this together someday, hopefully.

Does anyone else have a fun story to share?
Well,my Robin was Robin due to her colouring and not due to her sex( thankfully as sold as a boy and I eventually looked and.seen.she was a girl) when we first saw her little face ,all bright red ,with white beard ,and umbrous from her brow and down her back,we.both said that she looked like a little Robin. Which also to me means new beginnings . I had literally just lost my Penny Black,so it was meant to be. Robin needed me as much as I needed her. As for Penny Black, she was named after a black dog I had as a child, named Penny Black after the stamp. Penny was so cute,my little black bear. I won't go in to any more ,I have had so many over the years to remember all of them, and I would be here forever lol

Robin (love the association with new beginnings!) and Penny Black are both adorable names for two of your many little angels. 😇 It’s so special when a name carries that much history and heart.

Thankyou,Robins full name is actually Robin Banks. They have to have full names to me,to be the distinguished little cuties that they are.

My husband always joked that when he had a son, he'd call him Oberdhal Bobbleknob. We can't have children so we named our Roborovski Oberdhal Bobbleknob, or Obie for short. I was thinking of a Russian name for him, such as Ivor, because of the name of the Russian naturalist who discovered the species, but he seems to really suit Obie.

I wondered what Obie was short for :-) So sorry you can't have children. For many of us, hamsters are our babies as well
:)
