I have a dog (a Yorkshire Terrier - I like my animals small 
) and up until a year ago, I also had Bertie the chinchilla. Over the years I've also had mice, rats, and a Russian dwarf winter white. I couldn't have an animal who goes out and gets up to whatever it wants to, like a cat; I'd be too worried. I'd have the same problem with a child! Plus children are VERY expensive and I'm aware that being a parent never stops, even when the child becomes an adult. This is too much of a commitment for me!
