Your hamster names

Before I brought Bramble home, I looked at the photos the rescue had of her and thought of various names, but when I met her "in hamster" none of them seemed right. Then the name Bramble popped into my head and it fit perfectly. I think I might be have been subconsciously influenced by the Brambly Hedge books that I used to love as a child.

It's nice when that happens - when a hamster makes you think of something and a name pops into your head :)

I loved Brambly Hedge. Such beautiful illustrations.😍

I chose the name Albert because...

1- I love old names.

2 - I love history so he's named after the following:

Albert Ball, VC, DSO & Two Bars, MC (14 August 1896 – 7 May 1917) was a British fighter pilot during the First World War.

and

Albert Einstein, 14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist, widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest and most influential physicists of all time.

3 - I love uncle Albert out of Only Fools and Horses.

I was hoping you would find this thread as I have been curious about Albert's name. I love your reasons for choosing his name. :)

Thank you Rainbow. Yep I'm still looking around the forum. It's so lovely on this forum. I'm on two other forums but they aren't as good as this one 🐹😊

It is nice to hear how you chose the name Albert. Naming can be an important process - it has to feel right doesn't it? I am now off to find out more about Albert Ball! He is not one I've heard of. But if you're interested in WWI pilots you might like this book - written by someone who was a pilot in WWI and it's a lovely read, very natural and funny in places. I absolutely loved this book.

We used to have a kind of shortlist of names with the whole family being involved crossing things off until we got down to 2 or 3. Usually we were able to be unanimous about one.

I wonder if Cecil Lewis mentions Albert Ball in his book! He mentions quite a few people. Although Cecil Lewis survived and grew old and went on to write this book (autobiographical).

Apparently he did write about Albert Ball in the book (positively) and they knew each other. They were in the same squadron.

Our names:

Charlie - chosen by stepson after a TV character
Newt - after Newt Scamander!
Nugget - shortlist choice as it suited our first robo - although he nearly got called Charlie Mark II lol - he had a lot of middle names as a result
Moo - he was a rescue and was already called Moo - it suited him and we liked it so kept the name (he was black and white like a moo cow).
Pickle - a shortlist choice - OH thought of it and it was the one we all liked.
Pip - he was teeny tiny and Pip just came to mind - small name for tiny hamster (short for Pipkin)
Raffy - first name I chose myself which I found difficult and spent ages deciding without a lot of input but this just felt right - short for Raphael - Raphael was a mutant ninja turtle and an angel - both of which suited Raffy's personality! He was also an artist but I haven't seen Raffy with any artistic tendencies!

I've already got that book but I've not got round to reading it yet. I love reading and secondhand books shops.

I love the name Moo. Cows are one of my favourite animals. I always say moo cows never just cows.
Raphael is a beautiful name. I love art. Being called after an angel is wonderful.

I love those names! Especially Blade! That is very unusual. Having a theme is nice as well, if it's something you like. I reckon your Dolly Parton will be a character as well :) .

When you say grey winter white - she is probably a hybrid. A lot of people call them winter whites when they're a hybrid of winter white and campbells - the two have been interbred unfortunately for a long time. A pedigree winter white only comes in three colours. "Normal" (a kind of brown colour), Sapphire (solid coloured dark blue/grey) and Opal (pure white).
