Cardboard creations

Where can you get safe cardboard from? I can't seem to get enough for my hamster

If you get any online shopping you can often get some that way. If not you can always buy some cardboard from places like the Pound Shop. Once I got a cardboard box and was concerned about germs so I put it in the oven on a low heat for 20 minutes. I think I am just over cautious though. ;)

I tend to use cereal boxes or sometimes Amazon boxes. Is your hammy still chewing?

That hadn't occurred to me but I think germs don't survive on cardboard for very long - maybe a day or three max.

You are probably right. It was just because the outside of the box could have been touched by anybody. Orko has high standards and I must maintain them. ;)

Yes, more than I would like. We take her out a lot now. The new cage is on its way.

Oh goodness it does sound busy! If you go to a supermarket they often give you boxes (or used to). But I am also a bit fussy about leaving things to de bug for a day or two!

Can you use the boxes than cans of coke come in, even though they have a shiny side?
I would not just because I am not sure of the dyes. I use plain cardboard. Perhaps you could also use kitchen roll tubes for her?

We believe so, my sister took a look as well and agreed
If you could post a photo we should be able to tell. The male parts of a Syrian hamster are rather prominent. It can happen that they are less obvious when a hamster is new and still a bit nervous but once the hamster relaxes they appear.

Ooh they are great! I’m really loving all these creative cardboard treat ideas!

Good point about the ratio of buckwheat to water - it would be good to know.
