Crafts - what you do while waiting for your hamster to get out of bed πŸ˜‰

Or a sun and moon, I rather fancy those if I can get them to fit β˜€οΈπŸŒ›

I like drawing and painting. I painted this Halloween sign and pumpkins a couple of weeks ago. (Excuse the paint all over the table it's my painting table ) πŸ˜„IMG_20250811_223359778_AE.webp

I particularly like the hanging signs - very spooky - are they wood?

Yes they're all wood. It took me ages to decide what to write on them. 🀣I printed out the writing on my thermal printer and traced it onto the wood with carbon paper. The cut outs of the pumpkins and crow, skulls etc were already there on the sign. It's originally from Hobbycraft as had the tags on but no idea how old it is as I got it at a crafters bootsale in the spring. (I love Halloween)

That's wonderful. So clever. How long did it take you to make it altogether? I love the colour. You remind me of me in my early twenties - I used to knit so many of my own clothes and had some lovely things. Not quite sure what happened! Except proper wool got hard to find and expensive for a while, and my life got hectic.

I bought the wool (this is a blend of wool and alpaca) for my birthday in November last year, and I think I started it in January πŸ€” I finished the knitting in about June, but it was far too hot then to consider sewing it up, so I've been waiting for the cooler weather so I could finish it off 🧢

That sounds like good progress. I used to be addicted to buying wool! Especially if it had alpaca or mohair. Do you get people asking you to knit things for them? After they see your creations. I used to get that. I did it once and thought never again. I didn't enjoy it so much - didn't really want a box of chocolates or paying. I wanted the pleasure and satisfaction of doing it and part of that was doing it to wear myself! Rather than feel like a factory production line!

I was wondering if the warm weather affected using warm wool. It is lovely. Wool has become expensive. I'm not much of a knitter though: 2 x LπŸ‘LπŸ‘πŸ˜„

I prefer to knit with cotton in the warmer months as it's much cooler to knit with. Drops do a range of wool and wool blend yarns which are priced quite reasonably, and which are nice to use.

I envy people who can lose themselves in knitting. I can't keep track of where I am and also am too clumsy to maintain an even tension πŸ™
Try crochet. You only need to count the first line. I’m still working on the tension part. I make dishcloths. Always need’s those and I tend to start projects and go to another eventually I come back but at least with the crochet dishcloth I can just continue
oh wow. That is so pretty. I’ve never done cross-stitch. What do you so with them after your finished?

I must try some crochet with drops wool, lovely for winter evenings ❀
Thank you ❀ I added a cat to the picture of Cleopatra and Tutankhamun, put it on card and gave it to someone who has some other Ancient Egyptian things. The butterfly is on a card in my kitchen and the pears and little alien are going to have some more little pictures and designs added. Once its full, I will need to find somewhere to display it. You can get hoops in different shapes to go round the embroidery. Big cross stitch pictures can be framed for display.

What is "drops" wool please? Is it a brand? :-) My aunt used to crochet a lot and made an amazing skirt - I think she lined it.
